Tis the season for makeup companies to drop dozens of hotly anticipated products on the world just in time for Black Friday. Makeup companies like Too Faced, Tarte, and Nars have all released palettes dedicated to the holidays ahead of the 2019 season, and makeup moguls like Pat McGrath and Jaclyn Hill have also spent the last couple of weeks promoting their new holiday products over social media. Now, Kylie Jenner is the latest to announce her cosmetics company’s holiday line with the Kylie Cosmetics holiday collection 2019.
As usual, the makeup mogul made the product announcement through Instagram, where an extensive story displayed each individual product along with a swatch to show how its color looked against her skin. Where 2018’s collection was themed around the sparkly-blue shimmer of snow, 2019’s brings Christmas cheer with deep reds and golds, and packaging that was probably inspired by Stormi’s letter to Santa.
Jenner took to her Instagram to start unveiling the new line on Friday morning, flashing three large, red hat boxes that appeared to be the press boxes for the new product. The first product to make its way onto the screen was the new lip kit—a deep, cool red called “naughty list” that will likely pair well with any holiday party look you plan on wearing this season.
Next came the gloss trio, three new glittering lip glosses in varying shades. A pink gloss in the shade “Wish Come True,” a gold shimmery gloss in the shade “Must Be Magic,” and a silvery, holographic glitter gloss in the shade “Ho Ho Ho!” make up the gloss trio. The packaging, themed after candy canes, looks to be about the same size as her other glitter glosses.
A four-piece brush set and illuminating face primer were next to appear on Jenners story. The brand has, in the past, been criticized for the high price and mediocre quality of its makeup brushes. No prices have been announced for the products yet, so it’s unclear whether these will be sold for the astonishingly high price that her other brushes were when they first released. The primer, however, looks like it would add a nice glow to any makeup look, along with a shimmery setting spray shown later in the line reveal.
Kylie Cosmetics, which rose to fame for its lipstick formulas, will also be releasing six new liquid lipstick minis as part of its holiday collection for 2019. The six shades range from reds and pinks to nudes and golds, which also range in texture. Two new shimmering eye glaze’s (eyeshadow singles) will also be part of the collection. One is a silver shade called “Icy What You Mean,” and the other, a deep red, is called “Good At Being Naughty.”
Next, and perhaps the most daring of any product in this line, is a bright red liquid eyeliner. Jenner swatched this product on her arm but has not revealed what the product actually looks like on the eye. In my mind it looks terrible, but her makeup artist may feel differently about it. Regardless, this product doesn’t seem ideal for the average makeup user.
Two cream lipsticks are also part of the collection, a red in the shade “Merry Jo Matte” and a nude called “Coming To Town.” Neither shade looks particularly different than any other red or nude that Jenner has released under Kylie Cosmetics already, but the glittering red packaging has been re-worked to match the holiday theme.
A blush/highlighter duo represents one of the few face products in the line, but the neutral pink tones will likely look good on any skin tone so they make up for a lack of range. Finally, the eyeshadow palette is the final product to grace the screen. The palette of shimmering reds and golds is accompanied by various matte, warm-toned reds and nudes. There are 16 eyeshadows in the palette, meaning customers will get a little bit more variety in exchange for a tiny bit less product (a good thing, in my opinion, since palettes rarely get used up completely before they expire).
No official price announcements have been made on any of the products yet, but most prices on Kylie Cosmetics’ products are pretty fair to begin with. Plus, customers can expect a decent Black Friday sale to crop up in the next week or two. The line will be released only on the Kylie Cosmetics website (key information now that Jenner’s products are now available in Ulta) on November 19th at 3 P.M. pacific time.
