Field Yates Has Five Minutes to Save Your Fantasy Football Season

By mid-season, even the best draft plans can look unrecognizable. Star players get hurt, and breakout picks disappear as bye weeks make lineups harder to fill. Suddenly, the roster that looked like a championship contender in September needs help.

For five fantasy managers this season, that help will come directly from ESPN’s Field Yates.

RED BARON is teaming with Yates for “Field Access,” a new fantasy football promotion that will give five winners weekly one-on-one strategy sessions with him beginning in Week 9. The sessions will continue for six weeks, covering the stretch when playoff spots are being decided, and lineup mistakes become much harder to absorb.

Each manager gets Yates for only five minutes, and the time limit is tied directly to RED BARON CRUNCHTIME pizza, which takes about five minutes to cook in the microwave. When the pizza is done, so is the fantasy consultation.

That leaves little room for long explanations or emotional attachment to a first-round pick who has spent the past month disappointing everyone. Winners will need to get quickly to whatever decision is causing the most trouble, whether that means a waiver claim, a possible trade, or a lineup spot that still feels impossible to settle.

It is a short window, but fantasy managers are used to spending much longer than five minutes on decisions that may or may not deserve it.

Five Minutes Gets Very Valuable in November

The middle of the NFL season is when fantasy rosters tend to get strange.

Bye weeks push managers further down their benches, and injuries from the first half of the season suddenly make players nobody drafted relevant. Trade deadlines are also approaching in many leagues, giving managers less time to fix a roster that is falling behind.

A five-minute call sounds short until you consider how much time fantasy players already spend staring at the same decision. Anyone who has spent 45 minutes comparing two nearly identical wide receiver projections before choosing the wrong one may find five decisive minutes with Yates pretty appealing.

He has built much of his ESPN career around making those calls. Yates is an NFL Insider and Fantasy Football Analyst who co-hosts “Fantasy Focus Football” and hosts ESPN2’s “Fantasy Football Now,” with regular appearances on “NFL Live” and “SportsCenter.”

His football background also predates the fantasy desk. Before joining ESPN in 2012, Yates worked in scouting and coaching roles with the New England Patriots and Kansas City Chiefs.

That makes the clock one of the more entertaining parts of Field Access. A manager could get through a couple of lineup decisions and still have time to ask Yates whether a trade is worth making before the microwave beeps. There is no room for a long recap of everything that went wrong on draft night, which may be for the best.

Yates Is Treating It Like a Weekly Huddle

The promotion is built around competition, but Yates is also leaning into the social side of fantasy football.

“I’m competitive and I’ll do everything I can to help fans win their leagues, but I’ve always believed fantasy football is about community as much as competition,” Yates said. “It’s going to be awesome to meet up each week with some new friends to talk about the game we all love.”

That’s how fantasy seasons actually unfold. Draft night gets most of the attention before the season begins, but staying competitive usually comes down to what happens once the original plan stops working. Managers have to react to injuries and spot useful players before someone else in the league does.

Field Access puts Yates directly into that weekly decision-making for six weeks, with a microwave timer keeping the conversation moving.

The five grand-prize winners will receive RED BARON CRUNCHTIME pizzas along with their weekly sessions. Another 10,000 entrants will receive a free CRUNCHTIME pizza to eat during the games, or while reconsidering the lineup decision they were completely confident about an hour earlier.

Fans can enter from October 6 through October 20, 2026.

For the five managers who get Yates on the other end of the line, the first decision will be figuring out which question to ask first.
