Nestle Recalls Hot Pockets Over Concerns That They Contain Plastic and Glass

Published on January 20, 2021

Nestle has recalled over 762,000 pounds of Hot Pockets. Four consumers complained that they had found plastic and glass shards in their Hot Pockets. One consumer suffered a minor oral injury eating a contaminated Hot Pocket.

Which Hot Pocket Product To Watch Out For

According to the USDA official release, the contaminated Hot Pocket product is the 54 ounce carton packages containing 12 Hot Pockets with the label, “Nestle Hot Pockets Brand Sandwiches: Premium Pepperoni made with Pork, Chicken, and Beef Pizza Garlic Buttery Crust.” The product should have a best before label Feb. 2022 label.

The lot codes are 0318544624, 0319544614, 0320544614, and 0321544614. The contaminated Hot Pocket product was shipped nationwide. Here’s what the product looks like.

Consumers are urged to return the contaminated Hot Pocket product if they’ve already purchased it, or simply throw it away. The USDA has classified this recall as a class I recall, which means that, “This is a health hazard situation where there is a reasonable probability that the use of the product will cause serious, adverse health consequences or death.”

Thankfully there are currently no other reports of any other injuries or illnesses associated with this product. If you have purchased this Hot Pocket product and had an issue with it you can call the Nestle Consumer hotline at (800) 350-5016.

This recall follows another major product recall back in December 2020, where 18 people got sick from lettuce contaminated with E. coli. Six people were hospitalized but no deaths resulted from the contaminated product. These two recalls do demonstrate the dangers of contaminated food products, so it’s important to know where a consumer can call in order to report an issue with any future products.

Those with food safety questions can call the USDA toll-free hotline at 1-888-674-6854. This line and the USDA’s live-chat option are open Monday through Friday, 10am to 6pm EST. Consumers that want a full up-to-date listing of product recalls can click here for more information. You can also report an issue with a product using the online USDA Electronic Consumer complaint form by clicking here. Another neat function of the USDA recalls listing is that the organization also lists products that have been recalled due to undeclared allergens.

For example, there was a recalls for a Stuffed Food product that was mislabeled and also failed to list soy on the ingredients list. (The Food Allergen Consumer Labeling Protection Act requires food labels to list any of the top major eight allergens that may be present in a product. These allergens are soybeans, dairy, wheat, fish, crustacean shell fish, tree nuts, peanuts, and eggs.)

Make sure to stay up to date with the USDA recall listing to avoid any health issues so you can snack stress-free.
