Philippine Blockchain Week: Web3 Thought Leaders Gather In Manila

Published on October 31, 2022

The Metaverse and NFTs have been hot topics in the US since the start of 2021. I was curious to see what the rest of the world thought about these budding industries. That is when I stumbled across Philippine Blockchain Week and here is what I found out.

Here in the US every major news outlet or media company has done some sort of coverage this last year with big brands and celebrities jumping in. Brands are fast adopting NFTs for marketing and brand loyalty purposes, as are creators, such as the producers of a recent independent film.

What is the Philippine Blockchain Week?

DITO CME Chief Operating Officer Donald Lim is one of the convenors of Philippine Blockchain Week 2022. He confirmed the scope of the event which will be attended by innovators, entrepreneurs, and disruptors of blockchain technology.

Over a hundred international and local speakers, including some of the most influential names from the worlds of Web2 and Web3, will convene here in November for the first Philippine Blockchain Week. Tickets to the event, which will be held from November 28 to December 4 at Newport World Resorts Manila, are now available here.

Renowned Thought Leaders

Among the guest speakers from different countries who confirmed their attendance to the event are Ian Utile,  co-producer of NFT NYC and co-founder of IP3; John Kraski, co-founder of GMW3, NFT Heat Podcast; Sandra H, CCO and co-founder of Metapolis;  Anthony Francisco, Creative Director of Dolphin Entertainment; Kate Hancock, CEO of Metaverse XYZ; and Vilma Matilla, founder of 5ire; Val Wise, one of the builders of the first Metaverse Realities in the world.

“We are excited to host these global leaders in blockchain technology. We could learn a lot from these international experts and thought leaders as the Philippines starts its journey to becoming the Web3 Capital of Southeast Asia,” he said.

What to Expect

Before the official opening, Philippine Blockchain Week 2022 will launch an NFT Gallery in Newport World Resorts. On November 28, there will be a by-invitation-only “Welcome Night” at the Hilton Grand Bar, while ticket holders will party the night away at House Manila.

For the conference proper from Nov 29-Dec 1, the schedule will be divided into three themes: Blockchain, Fintech, and Metaverse. All of these activities will be held at the Main Conference Hall of the Marriott Grand Ballroom

There will be simultaneous events, including a VC-startup matchmaking, and an NFT & gaming expo that will take place throughout the Newport World Resorts. Multiple after-parties and networking events will be held at different hotels and partner venues around the city.

On December 2, the first Philippine Block Awards gala night to recognize the movers and shakers in the blockchain world will be held at the Sheraton Hotel.

On December 3 and 4, Philippine Blockchain Week 2022 will have “Block X” afterparties.

“This event is for everyone who wants to immerse themselves in Web3. We want to show how this technology is inclusive and beneficial to all,” Lim said.
