I got a chance to speak with the founder of Bad Rhino Inc, Marty McDonald, about exactly what brands need to do to just survive but to thrive. Brands have an ethical obligation to the survival of commerce to drive the ball forward, even in times of global pandemic. Its important for brands to be driving now, because by the time normal commerce starts again, it’s too late.

It’s about testing every possible way an ad can work, finding the best one and putting fuel behind it.

Where ROI Comes From
“You know, especially small businesses, they’re looking for that quick fix and they think the internet will be quick, and it can be It absolutely can be, but if you don’t have a lot of things in place or if you don’t have a giant budget You know, you can’t make it work.
One of my questions is always, like if they say well we want ROI like month one. I’m like Okay, cool. So your budget a million dollars a month. And they’re like: ‘No, no. It’s not.’ and I’m like, okay. Well, then what is your budget, right? I ask them questions, like where do you want to be in a month? They always talk about the elusive ROI. I’ve seen so many businesses in 10 years. That they get to month 6, and we’re just about there.
Like we’ve tested everything, cause you have to continually test, you can’t just do it once. You have to multiple, multiple times. Then once one thing works, great. But then you have to continually test that against other things. And I’ve seen so many companies quit at month 6, when they’re just about, I mean they’re just about to break through. One that breaks my heart, they actually hang on my wall here.
That breaks my heart, because they were just about to move the needle completely in the other direction, and their main investor pulled the funding after 6 months.
