Former actress and Hollywood icon Goldie Hawn recently lent her voice to a new Sleep Story for Moshi Twilight called “Goldie the Mindful Moshling.”

Moshi Twilight, brought to you by Mind Candy, is one of the most popular family companies out there, creating audio-only bedtime stories that are meant to soothe and relax children as they fall asleep. Moshi is free for download in your phone’s app store.

Goldie Hawn has been a long-time advocate of mindfulness, supporting mental health and mindfulness for children through the Hawn Foundation. Hawn has extended that and created a program called MindUp. MindUp works with neuroscientists to bring meditation programs to schools across the U.S. Hawn has also done a variety of talks, lectures, and keynote addresses on the importance of mindfulness – especially for children.

Hawn is joining a variety of characters in the Moshi world. Previous participants that lent their voices to the program include Sir Patrick Stewart and Brian Blessed. Sleep stories are for after any bedtime books are done being read. It’s a soothing audio narration that transports the listener to magical places like “Franzipan Farm, Lush Lagoon and Pawberry Fields.” After the lights go out, children can keep listening to the melodic story until they doze off.

According to Rebecca Robbins, Ph.D., a leading sleep researcher, more than 28 million kids have trouble sleeping at night. Trouble sleeping can be caused by a variety of things, including stress, stimulants like sugar and caffeine, traumatic events, or even medications. Not getting enough sleep can cause children to lose focus in school, be irritable, depression, mood swings, and a variety of other side effects. Meditation is shown to be useful for adults as well as children before bedtime, helping those who have difficulty falling asleep.
