MetaMundo, a 3D technology startup based in Amsterdam, has raised $2.7 million in seed funding to develop a 3D NFT marketplace that boosts the development of the metaverse.

The funding round was led by Animoca Brands, with participation from Hypersphere Ventures, Digital Currency Group (DCG), OP Crypto, Metacartel Ventures, Marshland Capital, Own.fund, Polygon Studios, Ascensive Assets, Sfermion, D1 Ventures, Cryptomeria Capital, Red Beard Ventures and Metacollective. Angel investors who also participated in the round include the founder(s) of AAVE, Rarible, WilderWorld, Nifty Island, Property’s Digital Ventures, and MetaPortal.

With the capital raised in the round, MetaMundo will boost its efforts to launch its marketplace during the first quarter of 2020, as well as the development of new features and direct integrations. Yat Siu, the executive chairman and co-founder of Animoca Brands, referred to these plans and the round by stating:

“Interoperability is an essential feature of the open metaverse. MetaMundo is creating a network of 3D creators and tools that make it possible to build the multiple emerging open metaverse environments that we envision as the future of digital experience.”

Founded in 2021, MetaMundo has developed a technology and platform intended to facilitate the job of architects, designers, and 3D creators by allowing them to mint, sell, and easily license 3D assets. For developers and users, the platform will make it easy to acquire quality assets to use in their metaverses and VR/AR applications, boosting innovation by letting them focus on other efforts. Finn Hansen, MetaMundo co-founder, said in this regard:

“One of the problems for metaverse users today is that they can’t easily use their 3D assets across different virtual environments. In part, this is due to the disparity in supported format and attributes like file type, size and mesh coun. We’re focused on solving this lack of interoperability by automating the conversion process to mint 3D assets that are metaverse-ready from day one.”

With the popularity of the metaverse and NFTs continuing to grow, it was only a matter of time until an organization brought both together. MetaMundo believes that by removing the complexity of creating 3D content for the metaverse by using NFTs, the industry will be able to work more effectively on creating the infrastructure for the complex use cases a true metaverse requires.
