Shimmer Industries, a lighting design startup, has announced the completion of its seed funding round at $2 million. The round was led by VoLo Earth Ventures, a VC that looks to invest in the energy industry through innovative products and technologies.
Shimmer provides end-to-end software for designing and developing interactive lighting at a commercial scale with automated code compliance. Its flagship product, Stellar 3D Studio, is recognized as pioneering a new energy economy in complex lighting systems that are planned, prototyped, and deployed by lighting designers, architects, and engineers.
Shimmer’s solutions can help to cut off thousands of hours in a typical lighting project lifecycle which has become increasingly relevant as commercial lighting currently has become a $105 billion industry including the smart lighting segment, which is rapidly growing and driven by a massive upgrade cycle in order to satisfy new energy code compliance demands for smart infrastructure.
The startup creates minute-by-minute energy consumption models to optimize lighting, reducing electricity usage by up to 85% aiming to automate energy compliance for platinum LEED certification as well as lower carbon emissions.
The first Shimmer-designed commercial installation is set to launch at London’s iconic Southbank Tower this fall. Other projects are in various stages of planning and development, as well as the formation of strategic partnerships with leading architectural and lighting design companies across the world. Speaking on the new investment from VoLo Earth Ventures, Jean Koeppel, CEO of Shimmer said:
“Our collaboration with VoLo Earth will accelerate our ability to deploy Shimmer-enabled environments at scale through the use of software automation to dramatically lower energy and operating costs. We are truly excited to be partners.”
VoLo Earth Ventures is a VC company that looks for and focuses on a diverse cohort of founders with an endless appetite to tackle climate change through innovative products and technologies. The company provides first-in funding to early-stage climate tech companies aiming to address the global climate crisis, which the lighting design startup is achieving with its technology.
