Chance the Rapper to Host ‘Punk’d’ Reboot

Published on January 24, 2020

Punk’d is back and it has a brand-new host.

MTV Studios and short-form content platform, Quibi, announced the prank show’s reboot Friday. Grammy-award winner Chance the Rapper will serve as its new host, following in the steps of original host, Ashton Kutcher. But this is not Chance’s first hosting gig; he recently filled in for James Corden on The Late Late Show back in December.

In a press release, Chance said the original series is one of MTV’s most iconic franchises.

“I grew up watching this show and it’s surreal to be in the driver’s seat this time around on Quibi.”

The singer also made his own announcement on his Twitter account.

The original Punk’d ran from 2003 to 2007 on MTV, with a comeback of episodes from 2012 to 2015. The hidden camera show focuses on playing pranks on celebrities and putting them in over-the-top situations. The reboot consists of 20 episodes, each of them lasting for 10 minutes or less, and the list of celebrities featured will come at a later date.

In addition to Punk’d, programming on Quibi includes Singled Out, a dating show hosted by actress Keke Palmer and comedian Joel Kim Booster, and Biggest Little Cook-Off, a cooking competition hosted by actor Andy Samberg.

Quibi—short for “quick bites”—was founded by Jeffrey Katzenberg, former chairman of Walt Disney Studios and co-founder of DreamWorks Animation. The subscription-based streaming service will bring forth scripted and unscripted content in “bite-sized” forms made specifically for your phone.

Punk’d premieres on Quibi’s launch day, April 6. Watch the reboot announcement below.
