Ashley Sicks: Promoting Pharmaceutical Excellence Through Quality Control

Updated on August 30, 2025

With more than 20 years of experience in science, management, and quality control, particularly in pharmaceuticals, Ashley Sicks has made significant contributions to her field. As a distinguished professional, Sicks has been chosen for inclusion in the prestigious biographical volumes, Marquis Who’s Who. Currently serving as senior director of quality control at Tolmar Inc., Sicks works closely with leadership teams to streamline for success.

Sicks’ professional career is supported by impressive academic foundations. She began her education by obtaining a bachelor’s degree in comprehensive human biology from Chadron State College in 2002. Building from this experience, she became a scientist at Energy Laboratories Inc. in 2002. In 2005, she earned an additional bachelor’s degree in microbiology from Colorado State University.

Entering the Field of Quality Control

It was in 2006 that Sicks first became involved in the field of quality control, joining Amgen as a quality control (QC) analyst. Then she went on to become a research associate with OPX Biotechnologies in 2008, though her interest in QC persisted. She reentered the role of QC analyst at Sandoz in 2009 and then became a QC analyst 2 at Tolmar Inc. in 2010. By 2013, she had become a QC planner at the company.

From 2014 to 2018, Sicks served as a laboratory supervisor at Tolmar Inc. She then worked as a laboratory operations manager at the company for the next two years. In 2020, she was appointed as director of chemistry at Tolmar Inc. With the perspective afforded by her new role, she had the support to update, revise, and optimize laboratory systems and equipment to ensure robust operations.

Sicks shared. “Through a lot of hard work and collaboration with the leadership team and the department employees, we reduced non-value-added work, implemented operational excellence, which we have sustained, thereby transforming our day-to-day operations and creating lasting impact… I am very proud of how far we’ve come.”

In her role as director of chemistry, Sicks worked closely with senior leadership to improve operational output, which had proved to be a bottleneck for product releases. By adjusting investigation processes, revising testing practices, focusing on employee recognition, and investing time in implementing effective changes, Sicks was able to drive laboratory operations forward. As a result of these and other contributions, she led the team that received the Team Collaboration Award in 2024 and was appointed senior director of QC in 2025.

Rising to New Responsibilities

As Sicks moves forward with her new position, she has become responsible for overseeing multiple groups at Tolmar Inc., including the microbiology, chemistry, incoming inspection, and stability teams. In doing so, she addresses compliance issues as they arise, conducts investigations, manages budgets, and focuses on employee growth. Similarly, she actively participates as a mentor in Tolmar Inc.’s mentorship programs.

Looking to the future, Sicks has turned her attention to advancements in technology and the goal of harmonizing operations across the laboratories. She aims to enhance her knowledge of artificial intelligence as it applies to pharmaceuticals and other industries, while also developing her leadership skills in her field. By continuing to partner with key teams and industry leaders, Sicks is building toward the bigger picture.
