Apple Event: See The New Apple Watch

Published on September 15, 2020

Today, Apple announced its future. The mega company held its annual September event today, unveiling new and exciting products. From Apple Park in Cupertino, California, Apple CEO Tim Cook teased the new iPaid, a new Apple Watch and more. Due to COVID-19 the event was virtual this year. “We know life won’t always be like this,” Cook said at the virtual event. “We look forward to better days.”

The New Apple Watch

Cook and the company announced two new Apple Watches that’ll change the game. For starters, there’s the Apple Watch SE, which is the watch at a lower price. It’ll sell for $279. The watch has the same design as the series 4, 5, 6, with the S5’s processor. It’s the Apple Watch Series 6 that is taking things to the next level, though. The 6’s processor is 20% faster than the 5. The screen is also two and a half times brighter. Apple is even teaming up with research institutions for the watch’s blood oxygen level monitoring. Anyone with the Apple Watch 6 will be able to measure the 02 levels in their blood. On top of all of those perks, the watch has a longer-lasting battery, thanks to Apple’s new chipset for the watch.

iPad Air 4

The new iPad Air features a 10.9-inch display, iPad Pro-inspired design and Touch ID in the power button. Available next month, the new iPad Air will cost $599. The 10.9-inch is larger than the usual iPad, but it comes laminated with True Tone support and anti-reflective coating. To make the display bigger, the Touch ID sensor is featured on the top power button. It’s the first iPad ever to have bio metrics in a power button.

According to Apple, there’s a 40% performance improvement over the previous iPad. The graphics will be improved because of a new four-core GPU, making it the most advanced chip the company has produced to date. The new iPad is available in five different colors: green, sky blue, rose gold, silver, and space gray. There’s also the 8th generation iPad with a battery more powerful than ever. It’s available starting Friday at the price of $329.

Will Apple See a Boost in Sales?

During the presentation, Apple boasted about the new iPad performing six times quicker than Google’s prized Chromebook. “This is a big year for iPad,” Cook said. “Now more than ever, iPad has become even more important. Keeping us close to the ones we love, providing a critical lifeline for doctors, nurses, and patients.” Back in 2018, Apple sold 44 million iPads. In 2019, the company saw a 1.5% decline, but that was not at all a slump for the company. Even throughout this year, Apple’s stock has remained strong.

Apple One Bundle

Later this year, Apple will make their subscription services available in bundle sets. It’s called the “Apple One Bundle.” Apple Arcade and AppleTV+ strangely don’t have the most enticing content, but the bundle is a solid deal. Here’s a breakdown of the individual plan, family plan, and premiere plan:

  • The Individual Plan – $14.95/month gets you AppleTV+ ($4.99/month on its own), Apple Music ($9.99), Apple Arcade ($4.99), and 50GB of iCloud storage ($0.99)
  • The Family Plan: $19.99/month gets you AppleTV+, Apple Music, Apple Arcade, and 200GB of iCloud Storage ($2.99/month) for up to six members to share the services.
  • The Premiere Plan: $29.95/month gets you AppleTV+, Apple Music, Apple Arcade, 2TB of iCloud Storage, Apple News Plus ($9.99), and the new Apple Fitness ($9.99/month or $79.99/year) program for up to six members.

Fitness+

One of Apple’s most exciting announcements, however, is the Fitness+. It’s a library of workout videos available across the iPad, iPhone, Apple TV, and more. There are yoga, dance, and strength conditioning videos. Many of the workouts will require no equipment, similar to Nike’s workout app. New videos will be added to Fitness+ each week and will sync with Apple Music. During the workout, Apple Watches will track heart rate, loss of calories, and the speed and distance of workouts. Fitness+ will cost $9.99, making the program and the watch the perfect holiday gift for exercise nuts. It’ll be available later this year.
