Technology is moving faster than ever, and software engineers are expected to keep up. Today, success in the field is not just about writing code. It is about learning quickly, adapting to change and helping teams move forward with new tools and ideas.
Rajesh Kesavalalji has built his career with that approach. With more than 20 years of experience, he has worked across industries and countries, developed expertise in cloud computing and artificial intelligence infrastructure, and advanced into leadership roles.
“When I was in school, I loved coding and problem-solving, especially algorithms,” Kesavalalji says. “That’s when I became interested in programming.” Even early on, he felt drawn to the field. “I knew I wanted to work in computers or anything involving programming.”
Finding His Path
Kesavalalji earned a Bachelor of Technology in electronics and communication engineering from Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University in Hyderabad, India. He entered the workforce during a period of rapid growth in the technology sector, where early opportunities helped him gain confidence and sharpen his skills.
“Out of about 100 candidates, I was one of four selected,” Kesavalalji recalls. “I joined the job and loved it.” That experience deepened his interest in solving problems through technology.
Kesavalalji began his career at MindTree Ltd., where he developed core software development skills. He later worked with NIIT Technologies and ArisGlobal before moving into leadership roles with Saggezza and BT Group in the United Kingdom. Over time, he continued to expand his skills into cloud computing and big data.
Kesavalalji’s career eventually brought him to major technology companies, including Google and Apple, where he worked on large-scale systems and advanced platforms. From 2018 to 2023, he served as a senior engineer at Nordstrom, contributing to enterprise-level technology solutions. He now works as a senior software engineer at a stealth startup, focusing on AI infrastructure.
Leading With Purpose
Working in India, Dubai, Africa, the United Kingdom and the United States has given Kesavalalji a broad perspective on both technology and teamwork. Over time, he began taking on more leadership roles. He has led projects involving airline booking systems, supply chains and, more recently, AI platforms.
“I completely led the revamp from the existing legacy system to a new system,” he says. Today, he continues to guide teams and help build systems that can grow and scale.
Kesavalalji believes technology leadership is evolving alongside the tools themselves: “Technology might be disruptive, but leaders need to see opportunities and know how to use these new tools. What worked before won’t be the same now.”
In addition, Kesavalalji stresses the importance of teamwork. Strong communication and clear goals, he says, help teams succeed in fast-moving environments.
Turning Constant Change Into Direction
Kesavalalji remains focused on the future, especially in artificial intelligence and infrastructure. “I’m mainly interested in rapidly growing technology companies, especially those focused on AI and AI infrastructure,” he says. He hopes to continue building systems that deliver real value while growing as a leader. Outside of work, he spends time reading, working out and translating Sanskrit literature. He also stays involved in mentoring and community efforts.
As technology continues to evolve, Kesavalalji is focused on staying adaptable. His career shows that steady learning, combined with strong leadership, can create a lasting impact in a fast-changing field.
