For more than four decades, Michel Langlois has been at the forefront of technological transformation, shaping the infrastructure that powers the commercial internet today. With the creative mind of an engineer and the foresight of a strategist, Langlois has played an essential role in some of the industry’s most influential and dominant networking companies. His career is defined by his commitment to progress and problem-solving.

Langlois has been honored by Marquis Who’s Who for his distinguished career as a leader in technology and his contributions to networking and software development.

A Pioneering Career in Networking and Software Development

Langlois has held key leadership roles in major tech companies throughout his career. Most recently, he served as the chief development officer, then chief technology officer, at Calix, where he spearheaded the company’s transition to a software-focused business. This strategic shift helped Calix capitalize on the increased demand for home network access during the COVID-19 pandemic. As a result, the company enjoyed a significant increase in customer adoption and valuation.

Before his role at Calix, Langlois had a remarkable tenure at Cisco Systems. There, he helped develop the Cisco Internetwork Operating System (IOS). The IOS became the most widely deployed software system in the networking industry in enterprise and service provider networks across the globe. His work on IOS set him apart as a strategic thinker capable of technical and organizational leadership. Additionally, his leadership at Juniper Networks further revealed his ability to drive massive transformation, where he restructured the engineering organization, revamped product development processes, and addressed systemic quality issues, while also laying the groundwork for sustainable growth.

Throughout his career, Langlois has built high-performance teams and inspired innovation. Most notably, he guided his organizations through the dot-com crash and the economic downturn of the 2000s.

From Engineering to Strategic Leadership

Langlois’ journey into technology began with a foundation in engineering. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the Université de Sherbrooke, in Sherbrooke, Quebec, in 1985. His technical expertise was honed early on, starting with Bell Northern Research and continuing through his senior roles at Eicon Technology, Cisco, Juniper Networks, and Calix Inc.

Recognized for Innovation and Industry Leadership

As a leading chief technology officer, Langlois’ forward-looking contributions have earned him widespread recognition. In 2022, he was named one of the country’s top 12 chief technology officers. He was also awarded the Cisco Pioneer Award six times and has received numerous accolades for his work in network software and system technology.

Drawing from his background growing up on a farm, Langlois honed a unique skill set for breaking down complex issues and providing clear guidance to his teams. He has built his career on a philosophy that leadership is about empowering others.

Looking Ahead: Sharing Expertise Through Writing and Speaking

Langlois is preparing to publish his upcoming book, “Beyond the Code: Unveiling the Human Factor in Technology Leadership Innovations,” which reflects on leadership and his career in Silicon Valley. He will also deliver a TEDx talk on managing innovation in maturing companies, furthering his goal of mentoring others and contributing to the next generation of leaders. Looking forward, Langlois plans to guide organizations as they transition to exciting new technological heights.
