On Monday, a private jet belonging to hip-hop artist and rapper Lil Wayne was stopped by federal agents in Miami, Florida. And guess what they found? Guns and a number of drugs. Merry Christmas to the Feds.
Curiously enough, the Miami-Dade police received a tip that the plane the rapper was on may have been carrying weapons and marijuana, according to The Miami Herald.
But Wayne, 37, whose real name is Dwayne Michael Carter Jr., who also goes by the name, ‘Weezy,’ isn’t a stranger to a scenario like this. A decade ago, he pleaded guilty in New York to possession of a firearm which stemmed from his arrest back in July 2007, when a loaded .40-caliber semi-automatic gun was found on his tour bus.
Upon receiving a search warrant to inspect the plane, authorities privy to the search included members of the FBI, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, as well as members of the Miami-Dade Police.
I’m still wondering why Wayne was even on anyone’s radar and why at this moment? According to the Herald, a gold plated .45-caliber gun, MDMA in both pill and crystal form, marijuana, cocaine, and heroin were all found in Wayne’s Coach bag. Fun fact: Weezy’s chef, who was traveling with the rapper, had about $20,000 in cash on him, sources said.
Wayne’s attorney, Howard Srebnick said late Monday that the rapper was “cleared” by investigators and allowed to leave the airport Monday evening.
But why was the rapper flying with all that baggage? Talk about trafficking, but as it stands our country faces an insurmountable problem concerning opioids and heroin.
While no charges were initially pressed against Wayne, it’s possible that a federal grand jury could be compiled after the holidays to consider whether or not to issue an indictment for gun and drug charges.
