If uploading your own music or podcasts was a goal you set for 2020, SoundCloud has just made it easier than ever to post audio files on their platform. On Tuesday, SoundCloud announced in a blog post an update to their mobile app. The new features would allow users to edit their tracks through the app, a feature that was originally accessible on desktop only.
To get started, users must update to the latest version of SoundCloud on their iOS mobile device. Once they are on the app, tapping the three dots next to a track will allow them to update artwork, descriptions, genre and privacy settings. The features will also allow creators to turn their tracks from private to public.
For SoundCloud Pro members, they can pin tracks with the “Spotlight” feature. This will allow visitors on their profile to see their highlighted work first. “Now when you’re on the move and inspiration strikes, you don’t have to wait to update your tracks,” SoundCloud stated in a blog post.

The announcement comes as a “part of [their] commitment to giving you what you need to make a career in music.” Kerry Trainor, SoundCloud CEO, has prioritized making the platform more artist-friendly since becoming head of the company in 2017. Early last year, Trainor added a new distribution system for SoundCloud Premier users that would allow creators to distribute their music directly to music streaming services, including Apple Music, Spotify, Amazon Music, and even Instagram.
In an interview with Forbes, Trainor said, “SoundCloud really remains the only platform dedicated to audio that allows for instant upload and availability for a creator to put their work in the world on their own terms on a global basis, interact with an audience, build a fan base, and generate data.” Now with the addition of distribution for Premier users early last year, and most recently the addition to edit tracks on the mobile app, Soundcloud’s interface has made gaining an audience easier than ever.
SoundCloud says the mobile features are currently only available for iOS users but will launch on Android soon. Users can frequently check their announcements page for future updates.
