Rahul Goyal, president of NRG Supply Inc., has built a thriving career in the recycling and trade industry. With over eight years of experience in the field, Goyal’s leadership reflects a mix of technical expertise, resilience and a passion for sustainability.

At NRG Supply Inc., Goyal oversees operations that include managing between 50 and 80 export containers monthly. It’s a substantial leap from his initial target of 10 to 15 containers. This growth demonstrates his ability to adapt to market demands and build supplier relationships.

An Entrepreneur with an Engineer’s Brain

Goyal’s journey began in India, where his father’s involvement in the recycling industry sparked his interest. By 16, he was learning the intricacies of international trade by working alongside his father. However, Goyal recognized inefficiencies, such as reliance on intermediaries for sourcing materials. This realization motivated him to establish direct connections with suppliers in the United States. This decision would set the stage for his business success.

Moving to the U.S. in 2018 posed challenges. For instance, navigating differences in measurement systems and market expectations proved difficult. Goyal adapted with the help of his computer engineering background. The education he received equipped him to take a problem-solving approach to any challenge.

“I use my engineering brain in this industry,” Goyal notes. “If this doesn’t work, I’ll try this or that.”

The Ripple Effect of Recycling

The recycling industry is dynamic and complex. For example, it’s not unusual for Goyal to have surplus materials and no immediate buyer. In situations like this, he takes a proactive approach. The process involves networking with new buyers and identifying innovative uses for materials that might otherwise go to waste.

This dedication to solving a common industry problem has a ripple effect. Goyal contributes to reducing landfill waste and supports environmental sustainability by finding a new purpose for recyclable materials.

Additionally, Goyal values continuous learning. As a member of the Recycled Materials Association, he remains well-informed about the latest industry trends, innovations, and news.

Embracing Change to Impact Lives

Goyal’s willingness to embrace change is a factor in his success. Starting as a network administrator in India, he transitioned into the recycling industry. The coupling of technical skills with business savvy has resulted in an expansion of his company’s operations. As a result, Goyal has helped provide livelihoods for individuals in India who rely on recycled materials for income.

Goyal aims to increase his processing volume to 1,000 containers. This ambitious goal reflects his dedication to supporting global recycling efforts while positively impacting communities that depend on recycling for survival.

A Legacy of Sustainability in Action

When he is not working, Goyal channels his creativity into home projects and woodworking. The resourceful businessman takes pride in constructing items rather than relying on hired help.

Goyal sees the recycling industry as a global opportunity. His advice to aspiring entrepreneurs is simple yet profound: “Be clear on what you are doing and keep trying.”

With a career marked by perseverance, innovation, and a commitment to sustainability, Goyal is not just a leader in his field — he is a trailblazer shaping the future of recycling.
