CurvePoint, a Carnegie Mellon University spinout focused on privacy-first spatial intelligence, has partnered with Questeq to bring advanced safety technology to over 40 Pennsylvania school districts. Under the partnership, Questeq will offer CurvePoint’s Wi-AI platform to K–12 schools across Pennsylvania, as well as handle installation, onboarding, training, and first- and second-tier support activities.
Wi-AI transforms existing Wi-Fi networks into a real-time safety system that can detect concealed weapons, movement patterns, and potential threats without sacrificing privacy. Developed from research at Carnegie Mellon University, Wi-AI uses advanced AI models to interpret how Wi-Fi signals reflect off people and objects, identifying anomalies before they become visible. By using the Wi-Fi schools already have, Wi-AI provides a cost-effective and proactive approach to school safety.
“Questeq has built trusted relationships with schools across Pennsylvania by helping them integrate technology that truly makes a difference,” said Skip Smith, CEO of CurvePoint. “This partnership allows us to deliver Wi-AI quickly and responsibly to the districts that need it most. Together, we can make proactive, privacy-first safety accessible to every school, not only those with the largest budgets.”
The announcement comes at a time of growing public concern over the reliability of AI gun-detection systems. In October, an AI camera program in Baltimore mistakenly identified a student’s snack bag as a weapon, prompting an armed police response and a national conversation about the limitations of camera-based surveillance. CurvePoint’s Wi-AI offers an alternative that achieves that goal.
For Questeq, which has more than two decades of experience managing IT systems for Pennsylvania school districts, the partnership reflects a shared commitment to bringing smarter, safer, and more sustainable technology into schools.
“Our goal has always been to help schools use technology that supports learning and safety,” said Jeff Main, CEO of Questeq. “CurvePoint’s Wi-AI fits that mission perfectly. It is proactive, affordable, and privacy-focused, three qualities districts are looking for today.”
Through Questeq, schools will have access to local installation and support teams trained in Wi-AI implementation, making it easier to roll out and maintain the solution. The partnership follows CurvePoint’s recent collaboration with Chartiers Valley School District, the first public district in the nation to deploy Wi-AI across all campuses. With Questeq’s statewide presence, Wi-AI can now reach more districts, expanding from a single deployment to a statewide model for proactive protection.
As schools continue searching for alternatives to camera-based AI systems that face issues with false positives and privacy, CurvePoint and Questeq are offering a new standard for safety that turns everyday Wi-Fi connectivity into a shield of protection.
