Building a company culture in a remote environment is always a challenge. This is made even more difficult when your team speaks multiple languages and is located across the globe.
We use ProZ to help communicate both within our agency and with external translators and interpreters. It combines some of the best features of Slack, with a user-friendly communications board, and Upwork, with a language-specific job platform. What makes ProZ unique, though, is the extra features it brings that are invaluable for a multilingual team.
This includes KudoZ, a collaborative translation tool that allows translators and interpreters to ask questions or troubleshoot tricky translations together. By encouraging our team to use KudoZ, it helps us deliver the most accurate translations possible but also supports our team in asking for help when they don’t know the best translation for a specific phrase. Given that much of our work is legal or technical in nature and covers 200 different language pairs, there are bound to be times when one individual won’t have the best answer. Asking a colleague, or your boss, for the correct phrase can be hard, and having an external resource helps linguists realize they can always ask for help if other issues arise.
ProZ also provides regular training sessions covering topics like localization and advanced editing tips. We often send one team member to such sessions, and then he/she relays the information back to everyone else. This ensures a constant flow of information and encourages team culture.
