Scott C. Maloney, MBA, has served as the founder and senior partner at Crain & Company since 2009, where he is responsible for leading the consulting team and managing their engagements. He places special focus on guiding them to effectively design and scope out strategies for client success, establishing direction for achieving long-term goals. With clients ranging from major pharmaceutical companies to animal health organizations, Maloney leads his company to make an impact across diverse industries.
The Growth of Crain & Company
Maloney built Crain & Company to work alongside the client, employing former operators, startup founders, and business executives rather than career consultants. This strategy has led Maloney to translate more technology between the human and animal spaces than his competitors and build strategies for $100 million initiatives and market expansions. His ability to secure investment capital and forge global partnerships is one of the many reasons Crain & Company’s clients seek him out. As a chief executive officer, Maloney has received the Titan 100 TitanCEO award in both 2020 and 2021.
Maloney’s Diverse Roles
Beyond his role at Crain & Company, Maloney has demonstrated his influence in numerous biotech, management, and animal health positions. He currently serves on the boards of directors for several organizations, including Nove, The Augmented Fund, Antharis Therapeutics Inc., Life Science Washington, TraitForge, and Anubis Bio, among many others. More varied roles have included serving as an advisor at BioSapien since 2022, a senior advisor at Voyce of One Health Group from 2021 to 2022, a chief innovator at Arrowhead Center Incubator from 2013 to 2021, and the chief executive officer and co-founder of Seed Worthy from 2013 to 2020. Maloney has occupied several other positions, many from his early career as a research associate.
A Foundational Education
Before pursuing his career, Maloney gained the foundational knowledge he needed by earning a bachelor’s degree in genetics and cellular biology from Washington State University in 2002. Building upon this scientific foundation, Maloney pursued a Master of Business Administration with a double major in finance and strategic development from the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University in 2009. Maloney believes that his success stems from a persistent commitment to others and a strategic approach, attributes that have enabled him to achieve great things.
