You filled the office walls with diplomas, the numbers in your bank account are getting bigger, you own a house in a beautiful neighborhood… Life is good, or is it?

You have learned happiness is a prize you work and suffer for. However, according to a recent study of 1,000 full-time employees in the U.S., over 50% said they feel more stressed today than a year ago. 60% reported being stressed most of the time at work. If the path to success is obvious (an excellent education, a good job, you get rich), why are most of them overwhelmed, stressed, or battling with their mental health?

Sandra Possing, a life coach from California, has observed the habits of millennials during the last decade. She reported the people that came to her for help, even though high-achievers and ambitious, often felt misaligned with the standard path of her career. Suddenly, what our parents showed us as happiness doesn’t feel quite right.

The cost of not taking action

You may find yourself with a full schedule, working long hours, and yes, you are getting richer, but there’s a lack of aliveness in your attitude.

Missing occasions because of late night shifts like your best friend’s birthday or regular dinners with your significant other may alienate you from the primary sources of love in life. All because you’ve been spending time caught up in hustle culture and beholden to a money-driven system, instead of what drives you. Real success measures not only wealth but self-care, love, and health — the real keys to personal growth and creating an extraordinary life you love.

You never learned to ask: “What do I want? What ignites my heart?” Questions like these may hold the key to unlocking your full potential, doing something you’re passionate about, and touching with your values, principles, and feelings. You will be inspired and motivated to unleash your inner badass, which could triple your earnings.

But, how do I start?

If you already identified you need a change, you must say goodbye and release old paradigms and action patterns, allowing you to embrace a new mindset. The fear of taking action, breaking old patterns, and looking silly in front of others may overcome you. Don’t worry, take baby steps. The path to self-improvement and personal development is a beautiful re-encounter with yourself; you don’t have to go through it alone.

First, be honest about who you are. Self-discovery takes courage and is an act of rebellion against societal expectations and conditioning. Your decisions must come from a place of authenticity: Imagine living a life where your necessities are covered, and no one is judging you, and answer: What are your values? Purpose in this life? Desires? Is it something you love to do always?

The second step is to reward your brain with gratitude. In years of pushing yourself to keep up with others’ expectations, it’s time to fill your mind with gratitude for how far you’ve come. As with any other muscle, you can exercise your brain by slowly rewarding it with gratitude to balance out all the negative thinking.

Happiness is the result of sustainable and intentional daily action. That’s why your third step is to make me-time non-negotiable. Whether it is taking a walk, reading, or playing with your dog, make time in your day for a small and consistent action you love doing. Make it a habit, this is going to start rewiring your brain into a more positive mindset.

The Toolbox for A Badass Breakthrough.

There’s a variety of tools Coach Sandra advises carrying out to help you on the process, like adding some sort of gratitude practice, for example, “CGI” (Gratitude, Celebration, Intention), into your daily routine. Humans are excellent at finding things that are wrong with them. To change this mindset, set a time in the day when you ask yourself: “What am I grateful for?” and list things you should celebrate today, even if they are small.

Another great tool is journaling because writing gives you a safe space to record your worries, good memories, and goals without judgment. Getting your thoughts out of your head helps you identify wrong perceptions, limiting beliefs, and disempowering thoughts, helping you let go of them. Doing some sort of positivity brainwashing can help with these thoughts, too. Because, nowadays, it seems like bad news is all around us. Have you heard the phrase: “I become what I surround myself with”? Try to consume positive content as often as you can, like audiobooks or podcasts, to start to balance out the negative thinking.

You can also change to a positive focus by adding manifestation to the toolbox. Manifestation is based on the idea that you can bring your dreams into reality, and that one tends to go where one focuses. You can repeat positive mantras out loud to yourself, like: “I believe I can, so I will” or  “I’m worthy of love and respect”.  Having a clear vision of your dream life and focusing on it can help shape your thoughts. Your thoughts shape your words and behaviors, and through the law of attraction, you start to attract more of what you want.

Don’t forget to find a mindful habit in your daily routine. Mindfulness is about increasing your awareness of your thoughts, feelings, and sensations, allowing them to come and go, with acceptance, no judgment, or the need to do anything with them. Practices like meditation help us become more present and observe our thoughts and emotions with curiosity, rather than letting them control us.

And lastly, finding a life coach or mentor can guide you through rough days and help you unleash your inner badass. This professional can help you find solutions based on your needs, they will be a great source of accountability and support during your process, and guidance.
