Synthetic voices by ElevenLabs powered Praktika hyper-realistic avatars, enhancing personalized language learning and driving a 100% increase in subscriptions.

The language learning app Praktika allows non-native English speakers to learn the language with thousands of AI-tutor led exercises. The platform’s personalized approach has already gained solid traction, boasting over 1 million active users worldwide.

“There is a growing trend of people interacting with avatars as if they were humans,” said Adam Turaev, Praktika’s CEO. “Learners bond with our AI tutors because of their hyper-realistic appearance and personalities. Incorporating high-quality, natural-sounding voices takes this connection to new heights. ElevenLabs text-to-speech technology (TTS) enhances immersive learning and simulated human tutorship experience delivered by our avatars.”

Since integrating the new technology at the end of January, Praktika’s paywall conversion rates have doubled. Thanks to emotionally expressive voices offered by ElevenLabs, learners showed heightened motivation and engagement with their AI tutors. As a result, learning session duration has increased by an average of 15%.

“The fusion of hyper-realistic avatars and synthetic voices of human quality represents the future of AI,” said Carles Reina, VP Revenue at ElevenLabs. “This marks another stride towards enhancing the quality of human-to-machine interaction as well as retention rates. In today’s context, people seek more than abstract AI solutions; they desire a personal connection with technology.”

Praktika users have the flexibility to select the voice, intonation, and an accent of their choice, including British, American, and Indian. This feature aims to improve their comprehension and speaking skills.

In the future, Praktika learners will be able to create personalized audio content, such as podcasts, that caters to their specific needs, such as improvement in intonation, accent, or speech speed.

“For example, if someone is interested in outer space, our avatar will produce a podcast on that theme, incorporating relevant vocabulary that users seek to learn. This allows learners to work on their listening skills with the calming voice of our avatars,” Turaev added.
