As managing director and head of regulatory reporting policy at JPMorganChase Company (JPMC), Ling Yin leads advocacy with U.S. regulators, including the Federal Reserve, the OCC, and the FDIC. She also collaborates with industry groups, including the Bank Policy Institute, the American Bankers Association, and the Financial Services Forum, to drive banking industry advocacy initiatives with the U.S. regulators.
Yin oversees technical interpretative support to all the firm’s stakeholders on more than 100 different regulatory reports that JPMC and its subsidiaries file with U.S. regulators. She helps set the firm’s standards in compliance with the U.S. regulatory reporting rules and regulations. Her team also leads regulatory reporting training development and rollout to more than 20,000 people within the firm. Yin’s successful handling of her many responsibilities showcases an ability to direct, manage, and delegate, making her an invaluable contributor to the financial industry.
Developing a Career of Managerial Excellence
Yin’s career began overseas, where she obtained a bachelor’s degree in finance and banking from Xiamen University. She earned her MBA in accounting from the Zicklin School of Business at Baruch College in the U.S. She also holds a Certified Public Accountant license.
Yin began her professional journey as a senior audit manager for KPMG LLP in both the New York and Zurich offices in 1996, specializing in large financial services and capital market clients. She was recruited to GE Capital in 2023 as the controller of GE Capital International Financing Corp, a bank holding company with 16 banks in 13 countries outside of the U.S. She later became the regulatory reporting leader at GE Capital which helped build out new teams and processes needed for GE Capital’s readiness to become a Bank Holding Company (BHC) following the 2008 recession. She then brought her financial service and regulatory expertise to AIG in 2012 to help build out its brand-new processes as a result of AIG’s supervision by the Federal Reserve and becoming a BHC. Her technical expertise and ability as a builder led to her joining JPMC in 2015 when the bank needed to build out regulatory processes under the Federal Reserve’s tightened supervision.
A Builder and Agent of Change
Building out processes, teams, and navigating the complex world of regulatory rules have become Yin’s personal brand in the industry, signaling a strong familiarity with the many intricacies that support banking. Her technical expertise and ability to develop teams from the ground up serve as her trademarks, talents that both AIG and JPMorgan have sought and utilized. She leverages her banking and regulatory expertise to create solutions that have had a significant impact on both organizations.
Yin’s unique perspective as a minority woman and first-generation immigrant, with training from three different continents, has also enhanced her ability to navigate global organizations and the cultures that comprise them. This asset has supported her efforts in driving operational excellence and delivering results through innovative solutions, a task she aims to pursue while she establishes herself as a leader in the community.
Civic Contributions and Continued Advocacy
Aside from her professional accomplishments, Yin proudly serves on the boards of Homeless Solutions Inc. and Genuine Climbing. She also sits on the advisory board of the Stan Ross Department of Accounting at the Zicklin School of Business of Baruch College. She takes pride in serving as a role model to her peers and team members, especially as a minority woman leader. Her greatest success, however, is being a working mother and balancing her personal life and professional endeavors.
As she continues to advance her career, Yin plans to remain active on the board and continue sharing her knowledge and network with both emerging and established leaders in the banking industry.
