With more than 17 years in the legal profession, Geoff A. Dulebohn, Esq., has built a reputation as a trusted public defender in Glenn County, California. Dulebohn’s career reflects a deep-rooted dedication to serving his community, upholding justice, and ensuring access to legal representation for those in need.
A Client-Centered Approach to Legal Practice
Dulebohn’s philosophy centers on his unwavering belief in putting the client first. “We come last. The client first,” he emphasizes. This client-centered approach has defined his career, particularly in his role as a public defender. He recalls turning away a stack of $100 bills because the case in question was too politically charged. The move reflects his commitment to ensuring every client receives the time and attention they deserve.
“It’s not about the money. It’s about ensuring the right focus is given to the right cases,” Dulebohn insists. This disciplined, value-driven mindset has earned him respect and trust from colleagues and clients alike.
From Paralegal to Public Defender
Dulebohn’s legal journey began in 2000 when he worked as a paralegal research assistant at the Butte County Adult Detention Facility. There, he first engaged with clients in the law library, helping them navigate the complexities of the legal system. In 2003, he transitioned into law school, earning a Juris Doctor from California Western School of Law in 2006.
It was during this time that Dulebohn became a certified law student with the San Diego County Public Defender’s Office. The role helped him gain hands-on experience in criminal defense. It also set the stage for his future accomplishments, including his work as a contract attorney and director of litigation support at the Law Offices of Thomas R. Lee and as an attorney at Vandervoort and Dulebohn, a firm he co-founded in 2010. Dulebohn’s efforts did not go unnoticed. In 2005, the State Bar of California honored his dedication to advocacy with the Wiley W. Manuel Award for Pro Bono Legal Services to the Poor.
Founding the Glenn County Public Defender’s Office
One of Dulebohn’s most significant achievements came in 2019 when he founded the Glenn County Public Defender’s Office from scratch. He approached this challenge with the same dedication that had shaped his entire career. “We haven’t had a single complaint from a witness, a victim’s family, a client or a client’s family,” he proudly shares. This accomplishment is proof of his leadership and ability to establish a legal framework that ensures fair representation for all.
Dulebohn’s professional success has not gone unnoticed. He was honored with the Pro-Client Advocate Award in 2024 for his outstanding contributions as a public defender and judge pro tem. His influence extends beyond the courtroom, as he is also a dedicated mentor to the next generation of legal professionals. Through his work, he continues to advocate for legal reform and justice.
Continuing to Share Knowledge and Expertise
Outside of his legal practice, Dulebohn is passionate about sharing his knowledge with others. He is currently working on several projects, including a book focused on fitness and safety and a manual titled “What Client X Really Wants.” The manual aims to help legal professionals better understand client interactions.
Dulebohn’s goal is to impact a broader audience and contribute to the professional growth of others in the legal field.
