How Athletics and Tragedy Made Ramez Shamieh the Litigator He Is Today

When you think of the paths lawyers take to get to where they are in their careers, sports probably do not come to mind. For Ramez Shamieh, however, athletics played a key role in his journey from a Division I student-athlete to a personal injury lawyer

The discipline, performance, and focus he developed as a Division I athlete provided him with a strong foundation for his life goals, giving him a competitive edge and a team mentality that he still relies on in his legal practice today.

A Story of Inspiration

Ramez was born into a Palestinian Christian family in Louisiana, a heritage and culture that he is so honored to be a part of. His father, a neurologist in Lake Charles, is still working to this day, which is approaching 50 years in business. Dedication and service run deep in the family tree.

Pursuing his dream to play soccer professionally, Ramez earned a scholarship to play at SMU, where he and his team set NCAA records. However, in the late 1990s, soccer lacked opportunities for professional development in the US, so he later attended Tulane Law to pursue a sports law degree after watching Jerry Maguire and A Few Good Men.

Ramez joined a firm in Dallas that represented the Dallas Cowboys before deciding to practice personal injury law in 2010 after his brother became a victim of a hit-and-run accident. This moment was a turning point in Ramez’s career; after learning personal injury law from a friend, he states that he “became a shark in litigation because he dedicated his life to helping his brother.” After he was able to obtain justice for his brother, Ramez committed to treating every future client as if they were his brother. In 2016, Ramez was fortunate enough to open his own firm, which has achieved unparalleled success.

Overcoming Challenges

Success almost always comes with a cost. In 2018, Ramez had been grinding at work so hard that he developed severe back pain that nearly required surgery.

Recognizing that his habits put him in this position, Ramez restructured his life, emphasizing clean eating, clean thinking, and a work-life balance. Additionally, Ramez studied and practiced breathwork, different movement practices, and focused on sleep. He explains how this event taught him, “Pain is our biggest teacher, the path to growth and freedom.” This path toward growth eventually led him to become a breathwork instructor and a motivational speaker. He also trains his employees with these life skills so they can improve their lives.

Success Today, Vision for Tomorrow

Today, Ramez and his firm, Shamieh Law, serve the people of Dallas, Austin, Louisiana, and Little Rock. They handle various personal injury cases, including car accidents, wrongful death cases, slip-and-falls, rideshare accidents, and more.

Ramez attributes much of the firm’s success to his focus on employee well-being and providing a space for open dialogue, stating, “We’re not a fear-driven firm. Openness creates loyalty and better decisions.”

By drawing on multiple minds, the firm can make more informed choices and incorporate a variety of perspectives that form a fuller picture of the task at hand.

Ramez is also a proponent of “Winning with Awareness,” the idea that the best results happen when the team is passionate, respectful, and compassionate toward the client and opposing attorneys.

Currently, Ramez has launched an immigration section alongside attorney Jordan Weinberg at the firm. Ramez’s passion for music and love for DJing drive him to help other DJs worldwide obtain visas to perform in the US, ideally doing the same for fans and professionals associated with the upcoming World Cup.

Ramez Shamieh found the road to success neither easy nor straightforward. Still, he has proven himself as a lawyer dedicated to service by maintaining a team mentality and competitive spirit and incorporating positivity into his work.
