Artificial intelligence has already begun revolutionizing several aspects of our lives. We see it every day online, at our jobs, and at various businesses throughout our communities. Now, AI is claiming a spot in the beauty industry as well. Opaliris, an app that uses generative AI to assist users in trying out beauty products virtually, is taking virtual try-ons to the next level.

Unlike other platforms that paste inaccurate, low-quality filters over pictures, Opaliris uses an amalgamation of photos and videos of the user to showcase each product in a variety of lighting schemes. Opaliris’ realistic AI tech is setting a high standard for VTO technology.

Beauty product consumers often feel the need to try them on in-store and sample them over the course of a few days. Makeup changes based on different lighting and adapts based on the user’s skin tone and texture as opposed to temperature. All of these factors make shopping for beauty products online and achieving the desired results quite challenging.

Beauty influencers and makeup artists have made careers out of trying on products on camera and advising their audiences on which makeup really looks good in real life. Opaliris’ goal is to make online shopping for makeup accessible and easy for everyone. Instead of trusting someone on a screen you have never met, you will be able to try on the products for yourself with Opaliris’ advanced generative AI model. The tech allows users to see what makeup products will look like on their skin with realistic imagery that can be adapted to different lighting and scenarios.

Unlike other VTO platforms, Opaliris does not just track a face and add an overlay. Rejecting this traditional Virtual TryOn technique allows Opaliris to give users a much more realistic view of the products they are trying out, but it also means that it is unable to run in real-time. While some see this as a drawback, others prefer the Opaliris method.

Opaliris requires users to upload a video and some still photos before shopping to allow the app to process the images and create the model for virtual try-on. This processing time might sound like a downside, but it also means that you can snap pictures when you have the time and use the same model Opaliris creates for you when browsing on the go or shopping before bed. You will never have to take additional photos, and Opaliris’ model can be adjusted to show how the product will look in different lighting, so you won’t have to change places or positions to see how you’ll look.

This valuable tool will first come to market as a standalone app, but the Opaliris team plans to build out a platform that retailers and D2C brands will be able to onboard onto. An additional round of funding has been secured to continue development on a lightweight model that will be able to run in real-time as well.

Opaliris founder Zhao Jian is no stranger to achieving big goals and plans to turn the company into a major brand. He has co-founded multiple businesses with multimillion-dollar exits, showing that he understands how to develop a brand from idea to product. Opaliris is in its next stages of development now, taking all of its modeling and condensing it into an even more streamlined design with its new VTO app that makes shopping online even easier and more fun.
