Transitioning careers always come with challenges. However, for A. Jared Silverman, Esq., the shift from engineering to law proved a defining journey. With a strong background in technology and operations, Silverman brings unique perspectives to the legal field, particularly in entrepreneurial and securities law. Having accumulated more than 50 years of experience, he is a distinguished expert in entrepreneurial law and international transactions.

From Engineering to Law: A Unique Path

In 1997, Silverman founded the Law Offices of A. Jared Silverman. His expertise in entrepreneurial law spans advising startup businesses on market entry and international expansion. Bolstered by a background in engineering and operations research, he has created a legal practice focused on technology and a forward-thinking approach to legal challenges.

Before entering law, Silverman spent six years as an engineer and systems analyst. He began at Western Electric, where he designed and implemented systems for automating manufacturing processes. Later, he became an assistant director of operations planning at the American Stock Exchange. There, he implemented project and cost control systems for the exchange’s automation projects.

Transitioning to law in 1971, Silverman earned a Juris Doctor from New York Law School in 1970, graduating first in his class in the evening division. He began his legal career at Huber, Magill, Lawrence & Farrell, where he worked on regulatory issues before the New York State Public Service Commission and the Federal Power Commission. In 1975, he joined AT&T, where he specialized in monopolization and pricing theory in antitrust cases, notably U.S. v. AT&T.

Silverman left AT&T in 1990 as a senior attorney. In 1991, he was appointed chief of the New Jersey Bureau of Securities. Over his five-year tenure, he made significant contributions by leading major securities fraud investigations, rewriting the New Jersey securities law, and founding the Internet Committee of the North American Securities Administrators Association, which recognized early on the impact of the internet on securities fraud.

A Leader in Securities and Internet Regulation

Silverman’s leadership at the New Jersey Bureau of Securities during the rise of the internet as a potential tool for fraud set a precedent for future regulatory efforts. His ability to recognize the intersection of technology and finance remains a cornerstone of his legacy.

As head of the bureau, Silverman addressed cybersecurity concerns in financial regulation and directly influenced how securities law adapts to technological changes. His efforts to integrate internet-based issues into traditional securities law paved the way for future developments in both regulation and policy.

Commitment to Civic Service and Advocacy

In addition to his professional success, Silverman is deeply committed to making a positive impact on his community. He was involved with the Jewish Federation of MetroWest New Jersey from 1986 to 2010 and ran for public office twice, including a bid for New Jersey state senator in 2001 and for U.S. Congress in 2002.

Silverman continues to advocate for social causes. He actively participates in charitable initiatives that benefit various communities. His work outside of law showcases his devotion to service and leadership beyond the courtroom.

A Legacy of Innovation and Leadership

Moving forward, Silverman plans to focus his legal expertise on assisting entrepreneurial ventures and navigating international transactions. He intends to guide startups through the complexities of entrepreneurial law, providing his expertise and leadership.
