Star Wars Fans Can Attend Rave At “Tattooine” Filming Location

Published on May 31, 2019

If Star Wars Land, which just opened at Disneyland, isn’t quite your cup of tea (long lines and screaming babies aren’t for everyone!), there is one event that could be the Star Wars fantasy you never knew you needed. A new electronic music event named Les Dunes Electroniques is taking place in Tunisia’s remote desert location of Ong Jmel. The event will bring Star Wars and music fans together to enjoy a festival experience unlike any other. The location, known for being the home of fan favorite Luke Skywalker in the Star Wars franchise, is just as fascinating as it is remote.

Mos Espa

Super fans of the Star Wars franchise will recognize the backdrop for the upcoming Les Dunes Electroniques as the fictional town of Mos Espa. The town was created for Star Wars as a backdrop for filming scenes in Luke Skywalker’s hometown on Tattooine. The fictional port city appears to be constructed of domes and huts made of sand and clay from the local area. The filming location was constructed in the western desert of Tunisia, a North African country located in between Libya and Algeria, just below France. With virtually nothing else in the area, the fictional village makes the perfect backdrop for both a high-profile Hollywood blockbuster like Star Wars—and a music festival.

Les Dunes Electroniques will bring together dozens of Tunisian electronic musicians as well as other headlining artists from around the world. The event will take place over the course of 30 hours—nonstop, of course—and integrate the film studio into its venue. Tickets for the event, which takes place over September 21st and 22nd, are now on sale. The official lineup, however, has yet to be released. To get to the remote location, attendees will have to fly into cities like Tunis, the capital of Tunisia, and take a bus or train into the nearby town of Tozeur (or, a direct flight is available for those who prefer air travel). The location is just a few miles west of Tozeur, so the city is your closest landmark in the real-world.

Raving On Location

The latest trend in the music industry—because apparently Coachella is simply not enough—is to throw raves in exotic locations around the world. Events have been thrown recently in places like The Great Wall of China, the Pyramids of Giza, Mt. Everest Basecamp, and even this iconic event in the Exumas, Bahamas. Festivals in exotic locations are nothing new, as the trend has been going on for years now. Increased concern over environmental impact has seen quite a few of these festivals come and go, such is the case with this “too good to be true” event that almost happened in one of Iceland’s most beautiful locations.

Unfortunately, there is a risk involved with purchasing tickets to a new event in an exotic country or location. In the case of Le Dunes Electroniques, the festival began back in 2014, so odds are high that things will go smoothly since this isn’t the event planners first rode. But what do you do if you buy tickets to one of these incredible events only to find out they’ve been cancelled last minute? We recommend still going, since it was the location that drew you there in the first place. Check out the after movie for Le Dunes Electroniques below:
