The flooring industry continues to develop with new technologies and materials that redefine spaces. For more than 30 years, Jack Chavez has worked on the front lines of this change. As vice president of floor covering at Exposed Design Group, he combines expertise, faith, and leadership to grow the business and mentor the next generation.
A Passion That Started Early
Chavez began his career as a teenager. “One of my friends was involved in carpet installation,” he explains. “During the summers, I helped by moving furniture and installing carpets. I was learning the trade and that’s where my journey began.”
That early experience shaped Chavez’s career path. “Helping others and growing my industry is what’s important to me,” he adds. His passion for hands-on learning continues to guide his leadership today.
Driving Growth Through Leadership
Chavez joined Exposed Design Group in 2021 and made an immediate impact. “Growing our actual business is a huge achievement for me, taking it from a couple of million to $30 million a year and growing,” he says.
Chavez oversees production and supports sales efforts while encouraging his team to master the trade. “Learn as much as you can about the industry. Don’t just read it; go do it. Be out on the field, listen and learn.”
Organization is another key to success. “Once you organize, you can schedule. Once you schedule, everything falls into place,” Chavez explains. “You start becoming successful out in the field. From the field, you’ll learn more about the financial parts of it and you’ll grow and do it.”
Staying Ahead of Industry Trends
Chavez has seen significant changes in flooring technology. “The technology, as far as sheet vinyls, ceramic tiles, porcelains and paneling, is amazing,” he notes. “We’re doing a lot of hospital work and we’ve been blessed with it. Some of the 5×10 panels are awesome. We just did a waterfall stairway with those and it’s beautiful.”
Close relationships with vendors also help Chavez’s team stay ahead. He confirms that being close to his vendors and manufacturers has been helpful. “They helped us and considered our questions. We learned from them and they helped us to come out with new products.”
Recognition and Achievements
Throughout his career, Chavez has built a reputation for integrity and leadership. “My most notable achievement is teaching young men and women about the business and ensuring that our industry remains strong and directed in the right way,” he says.
Chavez credits much of his success to the people around him. “There are a lot of great people out there who have always had our backs on what we do,” he shares. “I’m thankful for a lot of it.”
Life Beyond Work
Faith and family remain central to Chavez’s life. He has been married for many years and enjoys watching his children excel in academics, sports, and theater. “Watching them grow has been amazing,” he says.
Chavez also gives back to the community. “I did a thing called Rise Up Kings. It helps men and women with faith, family, fitness and finance. That was a big deal for me,” he says. He also volunteers with several organizations, including the YMCA, Special Olympics, and the Tarrant Area Food Bank.
Looking Forward: Expanding and Inspiring
Chavez has ambitious plans. “In the next five to 10 years, I aim to support my children through college and help them pursue the degrees they truly desire.”
On the business side, he plans to double revenue. “I hope to grow the company from $30 million to $60 million within the next five years,” Chavez explains. “We’re also partnering with others to expand services like sealing and waterproofing.”
With faith, experience, and a commitment to mentoring, Chavez continues to shape the flooring industry while building a legacy of growth and integrity.
