With its complex operations and constant demand for efficiency, the mining industry requires leaders who combine technical expertise with strategic insights. Richard Paakwesi Danso-Price, MBA, provides these skills and more.
With more than 20 years of experience in business intelligence and data analysis, Danso-Price has become a key figure in shaping the industry’s future. His work has spanned across sectors, and his current role at Covia, a mineral and material solutions company, displays his ability to drive innovation in a dynamic field.
Finding His Footing in Engineering and Business
Danso-Price’s career journey began with a strong academic foundation. Originally from Ghana, he came to the U.S. in 2014 to further his education. Prior to immigrating, he earned a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in Kumasi, Ghana, in 2007. Once in the U.S., he earned a master’s degree in business administration with a focus on business analytics from Baldwin Wallace University in Berea, Ohio, in 2020.
“My education set the foundation for everything I’ve done since,” Danso-Price explains. “It was the combination of technical and business knowledge that enabled me to think critically and solve complex problems.”
His career in data analysis began while working for companies like Sovereign Healthcare. There, he was recognized as an employee of the year multiple times. His roles at North Care Park Center, including IT support specialist and business intelligence analyst, solidified his skill set in technology and data management.
Mastering Business Intelligence at Covia
Danso-Price has left an impact on the field in his current position as a senior business intelligence developer at Covia. Since joining the company in 2022, he has been responsible for developing a system that tracks production levels and downtime across 42 plants.
“This project was especially challenging for me because I had no prior experience with process plants,” Danso-Price reflects. “But I approached it with a mindset of curiosity and that curiosity led me to learn about every single plant’s processes, which was key to the system’s success.”
Danso-Price’s role at Covia requires a deep understanding of business intelligence systems and plant operations. His ability to bridge the gap between technical systems and business goals has proven instrumental in improving operational efficiency.
Military Experience and Leadership
In addition to his professional career, Danso-Price has served in the U.S. Army since 2019. He acknowledges his military service as contributing to his leadership and discipline: “The Army has taught me the importance of perseverance and the value of working with a team. I bring those lessons into everything I do, from mentoring to managing complex projects.”
A Passion for Mentorship and Giving Back
In addition to his military and professional career, Danso-Price aims to help others succeed. He started a mentoring program designed to assist individuals in his field, and he’s excited about giving back to the community.
“Everything I’ve done is to prove that you can overcome challenges if you’re willing to face them,” Danso-Price shares.
Looking Forward: Expanding Influence and Impact
Danso-Price envisions expanding his role in business intelligence and consulting. He plans to start his own consulting firm to engage with major corporations worldwide and continue his mission of helping others succeed. He also has a strong interest in teaching and hopes to eventually use his academic expertise to inspire future leaders.
Danso-Price’s commitment to innovation, leadership, and mentorship will continue to shape the future of business intelligence, both in the mining industry and beyond.
