Michael Arulfo, CPM, CLP, CSPO, has built a distinguished career at the intersection of enterprise architecture and artificial intelligence (AI). As a principal enterprise architect at Boston Scientific, Arulfo plays a pivotal role in guiding the company’s technological direction, particularly in the areas of AI and information technology (IT) architecture. His work has positioned him as a leader in the industry and has gained him recognition from Marquis Who’s Who, publisher of prestigious biographical listings.
A Career Built on Innovation and Strategy
Arulfo’s career is defined by his commitment to advancing technological solutions that drive business success. Since 2023, he has served as a principal enterprise architect at Boston Scientific, where he collaborates with IT leaders to provide strategic technical guidance.
In this role, Arulfo works closely with leadership to align technical and business outcomes. His mission is to ensure that the company’s goals and enterprise-level architecture are cohesive. He also co-chairs the GenAI Architecture Tiger Team within the Enterprise AI Community of Practice. There, he helps the company harness AI to enhance its capabilities.
Before joining Boston Scientific, Arulfo held several senior positions at UnitedHealth Group, including enterprise architect (in the office of the CIO), strategic adviser to the CTO of Optum Everycare and senior product owner at Optum. He strengthened his expertise in AI and digital transformation through executive graduate programs at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Sloan School of Management in 2023 and the Haas School of Business at the University of California-Berkeley in 2022.
A Focus on AI and Healthcare Innovation
Currently, Arulfo is focused on leveraging AI to improve patient outcomes and enhance marketing capabilities. He believes that AI has the potential to transform healthcare by making procedures more effective.
With the current healthcare crisis, where the demand for healthcare providers continues to exceed supply, Arulfo sees AI as a critical tool in scaling up the system and improving the overall patient experience. He consistently advocates for the integration of AI into everyday clinical workflows. He believes doing so can reduce burnout and improve job satisfaction for healthcare professionals.
In addition to his work at Boston Scientific, Arulfo is the Executive Chairman of Beta.MN, Minnesota’s oldest and largest technical startup accelerator. His passion for technology and innovation is matched by his desire to give back to the community.
Arulfo’s leadership has earned him multiple accolades, including an invitation to join the prestigious AI Circle as a founding member and being selected into the National YALP (Young American Leaders Program) at Harvard Business School in 2025.
Lifelong Learning and Community Involvement
Arulfo’s educational background set a strong foundation for his career. He holds a Bachelor of Science in business and risk management from the Herberger Business School at St. Cloud State University and has completed the Oxford Executive Leadership program at the Said Business School at Oxford University (England) in 2020. Arulfo values the importance of lifelong learning and has consistently sought opportunities to deepen his expertise.
His success story is evidence of his resilience as an immigrant. Arulfo moved to the United States at age six and overcame language and cultural barriers with the support of his parents and teachers. He has since used his experiences to advocate for increased equity and healthcare access.
Looking to the future, Arulfo hopes to advance to the role of chief technology officer or chief AI architect, ideally within healthcare. He is determined to use his expertise to improve healthcare systems and positively impact the well-being of all.
