Ana Terrados and Allula Are Pushing Innovation in the Field of Design

Published on January 6, 2025

Ana Terrados’ relationship with Allula Design Studio was an instant kinship. Both the architectural and interior designer and the studio discovered exactly what they needed in each other, forming a highly productive and rewarding partnership. This collaboration has fueled numerous remarkable projects, including the design of several hangars for The Hangar Group. A project of this scale provides Ana with multiple blank canvases to explore her creativity. Each hangar reflects its owner’s unique preferences, offering Ana the opportunity to experiment with diverse styles and showcase the full range of her design talents.

Ana provides a detailed description of each hangar, offering a clear picture of their layout and features to better illustrate the scope of the task at hand:

“Each hangar features a garage on the ground floor where the owners keep their luxury or collectible cars. In addition, every hangar has its version of a ‘man cave,’ a luxurious, dedicated space for relaxing, hanging out with friends, and enjoying their collection in style. These projects are still in progress.”

As these are significant investments and personal space for high-profile customers, this is no easy task. Still, Ana sees this as an opportunity to push her creativity while meeting each customer’s unique needs.

When asked about some of the biggest challenges of this project, she pinpointed how difficult it was to transform an industrial space into a high-end, luxurious environment:

“One of the main challenges is that hangars are very industrial spaces, not traditional homes, which brings obstacles. For example, something as simple as applying wallpaper on the walls becomes a challenge because the surfaces are often unsuited for traditional residential finishes. We’ve had to get creative with our materials and find solutions that work for the industrial nature of the spaces while still achieving the luxurious and personalized feel the owners want.”

As space becomes a scarce commodity in big cities like Miami, effectively transforming industrial buildings into comfortable environments may prove to be a valuable skill in the coming years.

Solving challenges such as these generates innovation and requires thinking outside the box. Ana’s approach is focused on creating personalized, functional environments that reflect the unique tastes and needs of the client, blending luxury with practicality, and creating environments that feel dynamic and alive.

Ana explains, “People want more than just a place to live or work. They want spaces that respond to their lifestyle and inspire them.” Especially with the rapid rise of remote work, people need to make more out of their home or workspace as they spend more than half their days in it. Ana mentions that she has been experimenting with new materials and ways to incorporate textures, lighting, and spatial flow that enhance the experience of a room, creating spaces that are both innovative and deeply connected to the individual.

With that in mind, Ana stresses the importance of collaboration between her and her team at Allula and working closely with the client. With the rise of technology and mass production, things have taken a turn towards standardization. However, this trend seems to have changed over the last couple of years, and thankfully, demand for human connection seems to be on the rise. Architecture and design are the only other fields in which we can analyze this shift, and Ana has been very attentive to recognizing this need.

Ana cites another example of this trend in a residential project currently in the construction phase, which she will work on in the upcoming year with Allula. This project promises to be a landmark for Allula, solidifying its reputation in the design world. Ana reflects on the challenge:

“The level of luxury and customization involved in designing for such high-profile clients is new to me. The expectations are incredibly high, and attention to detail must be taken to an entirely new level. This project is already teaching me valuable lessons about precision, managing large teams, and balancing the client’s vision with cutting-edge design.”

Working in high-luxury environments often sets the stage for future market trends, especially in architecture and design. Defining what constitutes the next big trend is no easy task, but Ana and the Allula team are making significant strides in identifying and shaping the forefront of the industry.

Ana believes the only way to do that is to put the client’s desires in the forefront of this framework and implement your style. Ana stresses how architecture and design shine when you are able to find the balance between aesthetics and usability, and these involve a wide range of demands, meaning that a building or room cannot only be beautiful, it must be practical as well as harmonizing with the environment around it, beyond that it must also attend to global issues therefore following sustainability guidelines as these are of utmost importance for our times. Ana and her team hold these standards at the forefront of their business, showcasing what the standard for modern architecture is.
