If you have ever coached sports, you know time is always in short supply while responsibilities are never-ending, and nowhere is that more evident than in football coaching. Clipboard Nation has stepped in to fill that gap, offering a digital solution designed specifically for coaches who are juggling strategy and player development with a limited amount of hours in a day. Since its launch in July 2023, Clipboard Nation has already gained traction with well over 2,000 users and continues to grow.

Evolving Through Real Feedback

Clipboard Nation’s platform helps coaches modernize their game preparation through collaborative online tools that save time and improve communication with their teams. Their current product has gone through a number of iterations based on coaches feedback. The result?

Co-founder Luvisia Molenje explains, “We started with just a shared whiteboard for drawing plays during web conferences. Once we started talking to coaches, we took the direct feedback from our core users and we created a really dynamic and powerful platform that checks all the boxes for coaches. We realized how important video is to game planning, so we built in a lot of video manipulation and presentation functions.”

With their input, the platform now offers flexibility for coaches and players to communicate and strategize when and where it works best for them. He adds, “Initially everything was oriented around teams. We realized that since coaches move around frequently they wanted a way to keep their own plays and intellectual property independent from the team. It’s not just about remote meetings; it’s about adapting coaching to fit the new demands of a digital world.”

One of the strongest aspects of Clipboard Nation’s long-term strategy is its patent, which was a test of fortitude. “It took us close to eight years. Now, it’s a fantastic patent. It really positions the company well to do some things that no one else can do for the foreseeable future,” Molenje says. This patent is a critical asset and ensures that their unique software integration remains unmatched by competitors. While Hudl dominates the current market, Clipboard Nation doesn’t aim to replace the giant. Instead, Molenje asserts, “We offer complementary features that no one else is providing, features that address the needs of coaches beyond game footage analysis.”

A Well-Defined Target Market

Clipboard Nation is tapping into an underserved yet vast market: coaches and players at high schools, colleges, junior colleges, and youth leagues. In the U.S. alone, there are over 16,000 high school teams, 146 junior college teams, and 237 Division III teams, not to mention the tens of thousands of youth leagues. “These organizations don’t always have the time or resources to gather in person for strategy sessions,” explains Molenje. “We step in as a flexible, accessible solution that gives these teams, these coaches, the tools to strategize without the logistical headaches of in-person meetings.”

A Growing Market and Why Now Is the Time for Clipboard Nation

Collaborative digital solutions are critical in this virtual world, and sports coaching is no exception. The sports analytics market itself is predicted to hit $22.2 billion by 2031. Clipboard Nation has positioned itself to capture a good chunk of that market. While they are currently just focused on football; the potential for Clipboard Nation to expand into other sports—basketball, soccer, and beyond — is clear and on the horizon.

Competitive Edge and Scaling Potential

What sets Clipboard Nation apart from the competition? “No other competitor offers a complete and seamless solution dedicated to coaching collaboration like we do,” Molenje confidently states.

Clipboard Nation provides coaches with essential tools that were previously unavailable in the market. Their Virtual War Rooms allow coaches to hold strategy sessions remotely. This eliminates the need for in-person meetings. Coaches can get away from the film room and work from home. Coaches can easily communicate strategies by drawing, saving, and sharing plays digitally with their teams from anywhere.

Another key feature includes the ability to attach videos to plays for deeper understanding and allows coaches the ability to record sessions for later review or additional playback. Clipboard Nation also serves as a dedicated platform for coaches to collaborate through privately administered forums, where they share information with the whole team or select groups.  Additionally, its personal playbook feature ensures coaches can store their intellectual property and access it across seasons, different teams, and new coaching roles.

Clipboard Nation integrates both synchronous and asynchronous collaboration tools, further differentiating itself from competitors like Hudl. These tools include a virtual whiteboard that allows coaches to adapt plays as if they were using physical markers. Molenje emphasizes, “Our platform’s design closely mirrors sideline communications used by professional football coaches.” It provides conferencing abilities that can be used both for pre-game planning and live game strategy sessions.

Vision for the Future and Investor Potential

The next steps for Clipboard Nation are ambitious. The company is gearing up to expand its user base from 2,000 to 50,000 by May 2025. They recently rolled out a mobile app and are now developing partnerships with youth leagues. They are also continuing to build relationships with athletic directors to drive large-scale adoption. “I don’t want to go fishing with a rod; I want to fish with a net,” Molenje says, reflecting the company’s strategy to scale through entire conferences rather than one-off teams.

Clipboard Nation’s blend of strong technology and its patent-protected competitive advantage, it looks to crush a continuously growing market. And with the sports tech industry primed for growth and the company’s vision for expansion across multiple sports, Clipboard Nation is well-positioned to not only scale but really transform how coaches coach.
