On this episode of Startup Show, John Biggs sat down with Amrutha Gujjar, the CEO and co-founder of Structured, a revenue intelligence and observability platform. In simple terms, Structured is designed to help businesses understand their sales, marketing, and customer success data to identify high-value customer segments and drive growth. The platform simplifies the process of data analysis, enabling companies to pinpoint their best opportunities for growth using data.
With Structured, businesses can determine when and where their products or services are most popular and who their top customers are. This allows companies to focus their sales and marketing efforts more effectively, ensuring they target the right audience with the right message.
For example, if a company sells cheese sandwiches (John’s latest great idea), Structured could identify that these sandwiches are most popular on Sundays in February near a ball game, targeting specific geographic regions and age groups.
The inspiration for Structured came from Gujjar’s experience as an engineer at Meta, where she worked on tools to make operations teams more effective with data. Her passion for user experience and interfaces led her to create a platform that simplifies data accessibility for revenue operations teams. The goal for the future is to enable small, highly strategic teams with data to drive growth, reducing the need for large teams and making businesses more efficient.
Currently, many businesses struggle with disparate systems for collecting product and sales data, leading to inefficient processes and reliance on manual Excel tasks. Structured aims to unify these data sources into one system, automating and simplifying data analysis through AI. This results in more efficient and accurate reporting, allowing businesses to make better-informed decisions.
Gujjar emphasized the importance of staying close to the customer, a principle deeply embedded in Structured’s approach. The team regularly hosts coffee chats with customers in their San Francisco office, fostering face-to-face interactions to understand their needs and workflows. This hands-on approach helps them design a product that truly meets customer needs and drives desired outcomes.
Commenting on fundraising, Gujjar called it a positive experience, with the team being accepted into the Y Combinator Summer 2023 batch. The opportunity allowed them to share their vision with investors and secure a seed round shortly before demo day. Gujjar highlighted that building a strong product for customers is key to attracting great talent and investment partners.
For aspiring entrepreneurs, Gujjar advised staying close to the customer to understand their problems deeply and iteratively building a valuable product. She noted that the technology landscape is rapidly evolving, and staying updated with the latest tools and models is crucial. Despite the high expectations for new products, the availability of no-code tools and resources like ChatGPT and Copilot can help non-developers create an MVP and communicate their value proposition effectively.
Structured is currently in a private beta phase, with plans for a broader release at the end of the summer. Interested businesses can visit the website to book a demo directly with Gujjar, who is committed to providing personalized walkthroughs and building strong customer relationships.
