Zac Efron is heading out into the wilderness for his new show “Killing Zac Efron,” and the actor says he’s ready for the challenge.
Quibi, a mobile, short-form video platform, is sending Efron to a remote island for 21 days. He’ll be totally off the grid with very little equipment to keep him up and running. Efron will only have basic gear and a guide partner, so fingers crossed he’s both mentally and physically prepared.
“I tend to thrive under extreme circumstances and seek out opportunities that challenge me on every level,” Efron said. “I am excited to explore any uncharted territory and discover what unexpected adventure awaits.”
The actor will also be executive producing the series, which comes from both his Ninjas Runnin’ Wild and Zero Point Zero company, according to the Hollywood Reporter. Efron, Michael Simkin and Jason Barrett are executive producing for Ninjas Runnin’ Wild. Chris Collins and Lydia Tenaglia will executive produce for Zero Point Zero.
“We are excited to partner with Quibi on this new mobile experience to bring the audience on a wild, one-of-a-kind immersive journey into Zac’s world as he travels through remote locations in search of adventure” Tenaglia said.
Quibi isn’t launching until April 2020, but the company already has projects planned with many big stars. Some of those big names include Steven Spielberg, Jennifer Lopez, Idris Elba and Anna Kendrick. The streaming service will have two different payment options. It will be $5 a month for the version with ads or $8 a month for the ad-free subscription.
So Is The Actor Ready For The Challenge?
Efron’s list of feats is constantly growing. The multifaceted actor recently portrayed Ted Bundy in “Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile.” The dark thriller was much different than Efron’s previous role in the hit musical “The Greatest Showman.” Efron has also starred in several comedies over the years including “17 Again,” “Baywatch” and “Neighbors.”
Recently, the actor started a YouTube channel where he showcases his love for fitness and adventure. His “Off the Grid” series takes him to different destinations around the globe, and his “Gym Time” series depicts him interviewing other celebrities while working out. Nina Dobrev, Alexandra Daddario and Liza Koshy have all taken part in the series.
Efron’s YouTube channel offers a glimpse inside the actor’s very active life. “Killing Zac Efron” will hopefully showcase his talents that go beyond his acting skills. If his YouTube channel is any indication, then he is more than ready to take on this new challenge.
