WOC-Owned Cosmetics To Add To Your Collection

Published on February 16, 2019

“Highlight of my life just like that Fenty Beauty kit.”

February is black history month, and aside from posting a couple of tweets honoring the month there are a lot of things you can do to honor and support people of color every day. The makeup world has been working overtime in the last couple of years to be more inclusive of a wide variety of skin tones in their cosmetics lines. This year is a great year to add more products to your makeup drawer made by women of color. The following small businesses make amazing products at affordable prices. Who doesn’t love super pigmented shadows and blinding highlighters?

Juvia’s Place

Because the shadows are so pigmented and full of bright color, Juvia’s Place is a popular brand among beauty influencers and bloggers around social media. Juvia’s Place is one of the larger WOC-owned cosmetic brands and offers a wide-variety of products at an extremely affordable price. For example, this bright colored 9-pan palette is only $14 and looks amazing on deeper skin tones.

Beauty Bakerie

Everyone loves cute packaging, a testament which rings true with Beauty Bakerie’s adorable themed packaging and branding. The company offers a wide variety of products, all named after favorite desserts and treats. Because the brand sells its products online, it offers a handy shade finder that lets you compare shades to products you can find in stores IRL. Once you find your perfect shade you can grab this carton of application sponges to celebrate black history month.

Pat McGrath

All hail the queen. When Pat McGrath announced that she would be creating her own line of luxury cosmetics in 2015, beauty fans couldn’t wait to get their hands on them. Indulgent doesn’t even begin to describe the products, which come to life in a line of high-quality shadows, highlighters, lipsticks and lip glosses. They can be difficult to work with at times because they’re so pigmented, but the palettes are well worth their massive $120+ price tag.

Black Up Cosmetics

It can be hard to find lipstick that’s pigmented enough to give a rich, bold color without having to layer it on until it gets goopy. Black Up cosmetics offers a line of highly pigmented lipstick to create a dramatic, bold pout. The prices are pretty good, too, making it one of the woc-owned cosmetics to look out for.
