What’s New to Netflix This Week

Published on November 30, 2020

Another week, another list of options to stream on Netflix

. It’s a big week for the streaming service. The company is dropping one of its most high-profile and most anticipated releases of the year with Mank. It’s the latest film from David Fincher, who hasn’t released a movie since 2014’s Gone Girl.

Netflix is Fincher’s new home. For the last few years, he worked on two superb seasons of Mindhunter. It was hours and hours of Fincher entertainment. It’s still unclear whether the show will ever return for a third season, but in the meantime, the director has a new deal at Netflix to develop more shows and films. He’s been collaborating with the streaming giant for years now, starting with House of Cards.

Mank is about the making of Citizen Kane, and more specifically, the screenwriter behind it, played by Gary Oldman. Fincher is a director who makes movies and films, as he’s put it before. Mank is one of his films, similar to Zodiac and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. Whenever Fincher has a film released, it’s an event. It’s unfortunate we can’t watch his black-and-white drama in a theater, but a new David Fincher movie to stream from home during a pandemic is nothing to complain about.

Another major release this week is the fourth season of Big Mouth. The animated series about puberty is a fan favorite at Netflix. It’s hilarious, honest and deeply uncomfortable at times. The animation is stellar, too. The show has yet to disappoint with a season. It always brings laughs, as well as brings back awkward memories. It’s a great show.

There’s a few great movies coming to Netflix this week, too, starting with the perfect slice of feel-good food porn, Chef. As a director, it’s Jon Favreau’s best movie. It’s a personal, intimate and hilarious look at fatherhood and creativity and commerce. Chef is a story about filmmaking, in a way, but it’s also just a wonderfully charming movie that never fails to plant a smile on your face. It’s a low-key beautiful film.

In addition to Chef, we can revisit the Jurassic Park films, have a few laughs with Kung Fu Panda 2 and 50 Few Dates, sleep through through Robert Langdon movies starring Tom Hanks, and cry a bit with E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial.
