Uvaro, a higher education startup based in Canada, has raised $12 mln in Series A funding to expand its online tech sales academy.

The funding round was led by White Star Capital with participation from Real Ventures and BDC Capital’s Women in Technology Venture Fund. With this capital, the startup has now raised over $13.6 million to boost the development of its only platform to provide additional features to its user base.

Christophe Bourque, General Partner at White Star Capital, referred to the firm’s participation in the round by stating:

“The COVID-19 crisis has forced the business world to shift to virtual collaboration and new communication tools. It follows suit that traditional modes of training and skills development and sources of talent also must be re-imagined. Uvaro’s unique, 3.0 training model fills a significant void in the market. For jobseekers, it offers an affordable and achievable retraining option with direct pathways to tech employment. For employers, it helps unlock hidden talent pipelines that lead to highly effective, more inclusive workplaces.”

Founded in 2019 by siblings Joseph Fung and Donna Litt alongside co-founder Derek Hall, Uvaro has been offering its users a novel program that integrated training, technology, and work that has resulted in a successful career accelerator tailored to the needs of the tech sales industry. Joseph Fung, CEO at Uvaro, said in this regard:

“The tech sector is the fastest-growing segment of our economy and is expected to hire more than 250,000 individuals, with revenue-generating roles representing a significant proportion of this number. With the shift to hybrid and remote work, every employer is now tech-enabled. As a result, demand for our grads is through the roof. Our unique acceleration model is highly tuned to the needs of today’s job-seekers, employers and the future of work.”

By offering mentoring, sales automation training, hands-on training, and sales psychology specifically focused on tech sales, Uvaro is looking to open the doors to interested parties with no sales experience. With 90% of all startups failing to make it in their industries during the first ten years, which experts attribute to poorly assembled sales teams, the startup believes that it can make a change in the growing tech ecosystem.
