What is going on in Florida?
Two teen girls in Bartow, Florida may have taken the Halloween spirit a little bit too far when they were caught bringing weapons into their middle school to perform a Satanic ritual. Bartow, Florida is a small town in the central part of the state that doesn’t have much going on aside from its predominance as an area full of evangelical and catholic citizens. A local pentecostal college nearby makes it a popular spot for evangelical christians. Turns out that isn’t the only worshipping going on in Bartow, when two girls ages 11 and 12 were found in a bathroom stall with a large stock of knives and other weapons.
Police say that the girls were found in a school bathroom. A search began when an automated call to one of the girls’ mothers alerted her that her daughter never showed up for class despite being dropped off that morning. One of the girls had reportedly warned another student not to come to school the next day, saying something bad was going to happen. That student reported the tip. When the automated call triggered a concern from the missing girls mother, the principal ordered a search for the two missing girls.School employees found the girls in a bathroom stall with various weapons such as a butcher knife, scissors and a pizza cutter.
Once authorities were called the girls later admitted to conspiring to kill at least 15 of their classmates. They also planned to eat their flesh and drink their blood. Among other things found in their possession was a detailed plan, a letter describing why they intended to commit these crimes and a goblet. The goblet was to be used to drink the blood of their victims. The girls also admitted that they planned to do these crimes in the name of Satan. As if the story weren’t creepy enough.
Violence In Florida Schools
Just a few counties south from Bartow is Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. Earlier this year a former student entered the school with a gun. He opened fire on his former classmates, killing 17 and leaving many more injured. The shooting sparked several gun reform protests around the country. The Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting is the deadliest high school mass shooting in American history. The shooting led to political outrage around the country, including boycotts toward the NRA and other Republican politicians.
The two girls involved in the Satanic plot have since been expelled from the school. Many parents with children in Bartow Middle School have expressed concern. They are upset about how easily the girls were able to get weapons into their school. The story sparked the actual Church of Satan to speak out. Representatives clarified that the church does not endorse such heinous crimes. You can read their statement on the story on Rolling Stone here.
