Popular TikTok influencer and dance music artist Veneta Tsoneva, known simply as Veneta, is on a mission to become an internationally recognized singer and songwriter. Anchored by hypnotic tracks and her savvy use of social media, the songstress was able to ignite a growing fan-base during the COVID-19 pandemic that is following her into the future.
A native of Europe’s oldest city, Plovdiv, Bulgaria, Veneta has amassed over 200,000 followers on TikTok. She has also garnered millions of music streams and YouTube views for her songs and collaborations with music producers and DJs from Europe, Canada, Brazil and elsewhere. Among her most popular tracks is I Need You with Tolga Mahmut and Feelings with Tugay Batgun, both with well over 1 million views. Other popular tracks are “Feeling Good,” with Dizzy Class, WD2N and Neon, which was released by Sony Music.
Inspired by legendary performers such as Whitney Houston, Tina Turner and Freddie Mercury of the rock band Queen, Veneta lends her mellifluous voice to tracks reminiscent of the pop, house and dance music era of the 1990’s. These sounds are popular among international audiences, permeating clubs from Miami to Ibiza.
“For me, music is the one thing I can’t live without. I wake up with music, make music, and all my life I want to continue to make music,” said Veneta, who is currently the second most streamed Bulgarian artist on Spotify. I just love to sing, and I take advantage of any opportunity I can to perform on stage and connect with audiences.”
In 2020, Veneta made a big splash, appearing as a top contestant on The Voice of Bulgaria. However, shortly after, the COVID-19 pandemic stifled the world. She had to find a way to keep her dream alive while being confined to her home.
“I started making more TikTok videos to stay engaged with my audience, and my followers really began to grow,” she said.” I met producers on there and we would message back and forth. They liked my voice, so they would send tracks to me and I would record and they would do the song.”
Veneta met rising Romanian star ReMan on TikTok. They communicated back and forth, and later teamed up with Xzeez, another star from Azerbaijan to produce their track, Someone Else, in only two weeks.
“I have never met any of the people I have worked with in music, they are all foreigners,” said Veneta. “We meet on the computer through Zoom or social media. During the pandemic, it was very important. But even now, I still do it because I really want to make music that reaches people all over the world. The best way to do it is to collaborate with some of the best from different countries, and you can do it from the comfort of your home.”
Moving forward, Veneta desires to perform across the United States, work with Afrobeats artists in Africa, and also pursue her ultimate goal of collaborating with Pharrell Williams.
She believes that the current landscape of music is the most diverse and fluid it has ever been, creating opportunities for artists and producers to work with people and explore collaborations in a way they never have before. Technology also makes it far easier to connect even across continents.
“Music is the universal love language,” Veneta said. “Sometimes people will not understand your language, but they will love your energy. That is why every time I sing, I give my all and hope to give people a special feeling.”
