‘The Young and The Restless’ to Remain On the Air Through 2024

The Young and The Restless, a long-running and beloved daytime drama, has been renewed through its 50th season. The show will remain on the air until at least 2024.

The show has aired on CBS since 1973. To put that in perspective, the show has been the air longer than I’ve been alive, twice over. The show has also remained the most-watched and highest-rated daytime drama for more than 30 years. It’s an impressive feat in an increasingly competitive television market where options are more plentiful and attention spans are shorter.

Kelly Kahl, president of CBS Entertainment, said of the amazing run of The Young and The Restless in a statement,

“Having the #1 show for any length of time in any daypart is a tremendous accomplishment, but ‘The Young and the Restless’ has been daytime’s top drama for over three decades. The last time any other show was on top, Ronald Reagan was president, and the Berlin Wall was still standing. It’s a remarkable achievement and a testament to the extraordinary cast, gifted writers, talented producers and  supremely passionate fans, as well as our tremendous partnership with Sony Pictures Television.”

Tons of famous actors got their starts on the set of the long-running soap. Penn Badgley, who currently stars on You, began his career on The Young and The Restless. Other famous names who have been on the show include Vivica A. Fox, Tom Selleck, and Paul Walker, among many others.

The renewal is not altogether surprising. Besides being an American institution, The Young and The Restless also won CBS five nods at the Daytime Emmy Awards in 2019.
