Beauty YouTubers are a huge part of the entertainment world now, and many of us rely on YouTube to teach us how to do all things beauty related.
YouTube is a place where anyone can upload content, and viewers can find pretty much exactly what they’re looking for, whether it be entertainment, how to change the battery in the smoke alarm, or how to do makeup like a pro.
People use YouTube to display beauty content because, for the creator, it allows total creativity to say and do whatever you think works.
For the consumer, it allows everyone to find the exact channel that works for them. Because there is such a wide variety of beauty advice to choose from, there’s a skin type, style, and personality for everyone looking to learn a little something, or just be entertained for a while.
It’s also a really new way to market beauty products. Instead of a 30-second advertisement, consumers get much longer and more in-depth reviews of products. Every YouTuber that swears by a product as one of their “holy grails” is essentially a celebrity endorsement. It’s a huge change in the multi-billion dollar cosmetics industry.
With so many personalities and channels to choose from, it can be hard to figure out just who to watch for what kind of looks and reviews.
Here are all the best beauty YouTubers creating content right now, and why they’re worth watching.
Nikkie Tutorials just has to go first on this list. She is one of the most recognizable names in the YouTube beauty community, and with good reason. Her videos are both fun and informative. She specializes in tutorials of full glam looks, featuring dramatic eyes and bold lips. Even if you favor more natural makeup, it’s enthralling to watch.
Despite the name, Nikkie Tutorials doesn’t just do tutorials. She also does some product reviews and challenges. In addition to all that, she often does makeup on celebrities, including Lady Gaga and Kim Kardashian.
Jackie Aina is an essential member of the YouTube world as a constant advocate for women of color in the beauty community, and an excellent source of information on what makeup brands are inclusive for people of color. In that same vein, Aina does a lot of product reviews. These reviews are super helpful if you’re lost in the abundance of products available on the market and are looking for some advice on what’s worth your money.
Aina doesn’t just focus on makeup. She also talks about a lot about skincare and lifestyle advice on her channel. Recently she had someone on her channel to talk about how to tie head wraps, turbans, and hijabs. Aina is informed, knowledgeable, and unafraid to share honest opinions, which makes her a must-watch in the YouTube beauty community.
Taylor Wynn is not as popular or well known as some of the other beauty gurus on this list, but she is a valuable subscribe none the less. -Taylor’s videos are great if you have super pale skin, sensitive skin, or just problem skin in general. She talks about it all. If you have difficult skin and are having a hard time finding products that work for you, especially foundation, Taylor is your girl.
Her videos aren’t just for the pale-skinned among us, though. She also does meticulously researched and insanely detailed reviews of products. There is no one else on YouTube as detailed oriented as Taylor. She’s the go-to if you want to know every little detail about a product before dropping the cash.
Huda Kattan is an Iraqi-American beauty YouTuber with her own popular makeup line. Kattan started out with makeup but now does a lot of lifestyle and advice videos mixed in with her beauty content. She does everything from beauty 101’s to how to glam on a plane. If you want to learn how to take really good care of your skin, or how to contour like a pro, or just watch Kattan live her best life, this is a great channel to watch.
Sidenote – If you think beauty YouTubers are often are hard to listen to, this might be the channel for you. Huda Kattan’s voice is very calm and soothing, which makes trying to learn how to do full glam on an airplane so much more relaxing. She also subtitles her videos in Arabic.
Glam & Gore
Mykie, who’s channel is named Glam & Gore, is the unequivocal queen of special effects makeup on YouTube. She does some glam stuff too, and recently some lifestyle videos, but her SFX skills are what makes her really fun to watch. Mykie does tutorials as well as fun SFX challenges and sometimes she even does her special effects magic on other beauty Youtubers.
I know most of us aren’t turning ourselves into monsters on a day-to-day basis, but Mykie’s videos are infused with her infectious personality. Plus, the special effects knowledge might come in handy when October rolls around.
Safiya Nygaard is another beauty YouTuber on this list that’s not exactly a traditional strictly doing makeup kind of channel. If you’re less looking for specific how to’s and more just trying to relax and have some fun, Safiya Nygaard might be the one for you. She does all sorts of interesting and unique experiments with makeup, fashion, and other beauty-related things.
Honorable Mention: Jeffree Star
Jeffree Star has been surrounded by controversy for much of his YouTube career, and I debated whether to even include him on this list. That being said, he adds something important to the beauty community. Star is undeniably entertaining to watch. He is the walking, talking definition of “extra”. He’s also a talented makeup artist and the owner of his own makeup brand. Jeffree Star Cosmetics puts out some of the best liquid lipsticks on the market.
Most importantly, however, he is unapologetically himself which is reflected in every single video he posts to his channel. He wears colorful wigs, long nails, and full glam makeup, and while he receives a great deal of internet hate, his channel continues to be a display of authentic Jeffree Star. If you’re looking to see some confidence and gorgeous makeup, or if you just want to ogle at some extreme wealth, check out Jeffree Star.
