2020 changes the public’s view of health and the immune system in a way that won’t soon be forgotten. Although 2020 is now collectively signified by COVID-19, the hard truth is that it isn’t going away anytime soon, despite the most recent influx of the Pfizer vaccine throughout American hospitals and establishments. While we bunker down for the course of the second big wave, many investors and entrepreneurs alike are looking to where they can problem solve. One thing is for sure: the emphasis on one’s immunity, and boosting it, will pervade through 2021.

Due to the contagious nature of COVID-19, focusing on the immune system was the best – if not the only – way of protecting ourselves beyond social distancing regulations and lockdowns. As the latest data has emerged on how the virus takes place in the body, it seems that mucosal immunity is the recommended new focal point, according to Science Daily. This refers to the immunity of the nose and the mouth,  the two most common two passages of the virus. Despite scientific developments and clarity, the unknown has still left many Americans scrambling. How to protect themselves? Will even a mere trip to the grocery store or gas station bring them into contact?

The importance of the immune system

The boosting of the immune system is arguably on par with measures such as social distancing. A strong immune system can protect an individual even if they do come into contact with the virus. Our immunity can be thought of as our inner army that fights against viruses, bacteria, or other pathogens that enter the body by way of nose, mouth, or bloodstream.

The line of thinking is that, if it’s more likely than not to come into contact with the Coronavirus, it’s best to make sure defenses are up. Hence, focusing on the immune system is a continued importance. The standard treatments include Vitamin D, Vitamin C, plenty of rest, and avoiding any taxing activities. The immune system is directly correlated with the health of the individual: the number of nutrients they consume and the lifestyle they live.

Latest medicinal developments

While a healthy lifestyle is the most important factor to control in boosting immunity, there have been a few other developments.

One has been the focus on Glutathione. According to Jeff Hill, one of the co-founders of Manna Vitamins, glutathione is actually a frontrunner in aiding the immune system. It is a naturally occurring compound within the body, and studies have shown that even a minor deficiency can have extreme impacts on the body’s immune functionality. This is because glutathione’s chief responsibility is assisting the immune system’s T cells and natural killer cells, which can be thought of as the body’s soldiers against disease.

Then, there’s been plenty of buzz around Vitamin D. Preliminary studies have also found a negative correlation between Vitamin D levels and serious illness or serious complications from COVID-19, according to Hackensack Meridian Health. Vitamin D is also celebrated for its ability to help the immune system run and function smoothly, which is why it’s been recommended ardently by health professionals.

According to what scientists know to be true about supporting the immune system, a regulated intake of both Vitamin D and glutathione should be high on the priority list of anyone who is concerned with their immunity.

However, experts warn against store-bought vitamins at a time like this. Jeff of Manna actually began Manna after his health-conscious family noticed that their bodies were lacking the nutrients promised from his most trusted vitamin brands.

“Upon further research, we realized that water-soluble vitamins — the ones that are purchased from the store — are actually not as proficient at absorption. “For vitamins to actually work, they need to be absorbed by the body,” Jeff explained. “So, Manna Vitamins feature liposomal delivery, which ensures the nutrients actually make it to the bloodstream.”

A closer look at health products

This year’s focus on health will stem beyond vitamin efficacy for immune system boosting and into all areas of the health sector. Simply put, the newfound emphasis on staying healthy and taking care of one’s body means consumers are not as willing to settle for products that say that they can help.

Businesses that can add scientific data to back up their claims about health and immunity boosting will be the ones that succeed from here on out. Immunity is no longer just about making it through sniffle season. It’s become more life or death.
