The 2019 E! People’s Choice Awards were filled with laughs, tears and much more this past Sunday.
The award show honored some of Hollywood’s biggest names including Jennifer Aniston, Gwen Stefani and Pink. These icons gave touching speeches that people will be talking about for days.
Jennifer Anniston
Aniston was given the Icon Award during the ceremony. Her old friend and fellow actor, Adam Sandler gave an endearing speech before presenting her with the award. Sandler listed off numerous reasons why Aniston deserved it including her ability to make a great “green drink.”
In Aniston’s speech she attributed much of her success to the iconic TV show “Friends,” and said it is what makes her a so-called icon. She shouted out the amazing cast, as well as the popular “Rachel haircut.”
“I mean, Friends was truly the gift of a lifetime, and I would not be standing up here without that amazing show and those amazing five other actors and with an audience who stuck with us for a decade, and through streaming services now, and syndication, and I’m sure coming to a ‘watch soon’ near you or something,” Aniston said.
Gwen Stefani
Stefani received the Fashion Icon Award where she thanked both her mom and boyfriend Blake Shelton. She wore a white Vera Wang dress and gorgeous black gloves as she rightfully accepted her award.
“I love fashion, and I think one of the biggest blessings of the whole thing is just all the amazing, talented designers and people that have taught me all the things that I know. Because I used to hate fashion,” Stefani said. “I used to feel like, ‘That’s for the rich people, I’m just going to go to the thrift store and make my own thing,’ and that’s what I did my whole life and now here I am with this award.”
Pink
Pink was honored with the People’s Champion Award for her role as an activist. She urged people to fight for “decency and humanity and kindness,” as opposed to “fighting among each other.”
“I know that one person can make a difference. You feel like you don’t matter, that your life doesn’t matter? Get involved,” Pink said. “You can’t tell me Martin Luther King Jr., Rosa Parks, Nelson Mandela, Gloria Steinem, Anita Hill, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Malala Yousafzai, Greta Thunberg — tell me one person can’t make a difference. I am a dumba** derelict from Doylestown [Pa.] and I have managed to change a little part in my world.”
Other Winners
Kevin Hart made his first appearance since his major accident to accept his award for best comedy act. He also gave a touching speech where he thanked God, his family and the people themselves.
“You have no idea the effect you have on us as entertainers,” Hart said. “Your energy, your support, it means the world and I truly want to thank you guys for being there for me through my difficult time.”
Other winners including Zendaya, Blake Shelton and Cole Sprouse also turned heads. The night ended with Aniston and Sandler happily accepting the 2019 comedy movie award for their Netflix film “Murder Mystery.”
