Taylor Swift is the AMAs 2019 “Artist of the Decade”

Published on October 30, 2019

Since releasing her album “Lover” in August, Taylor Swift has been basically winning at life. So, it comes as no surprise that Swift is set to receive the Artist of the Decade award at the 2019 American Music Awards. According to their website, Swift is performing some of her past hits at the ceremony as well. The AMAs broadcasts live on Sunday, Nov. 24 at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.

Swift & The American Music Awards

The songstress is already up for five nominations this year, including Artist of the Year, Favorite Music Video for “You Need to Calm Down,” Favorite Female Pop/Rock Artist, Favorite Pop/Rock Album and Favorite Adult Contemporary Artist. This long list is very comparable to her previous years’ nominations.

Swift has won more AMAs than any other artist within the past decade. She has 23 awards total which is the most of any female artist in AMA history. The first time she was nominated was in 2007 for Favorite Country Female Artist. She went on to win this award in 2008. Then in 2009, she won Artist of the Year for the first time and also took home four more awards. She won several more AMAs every year up until 2015. She recently came back in 2018 to win five more awards, so it’s safe to say she’ll probably be taking home a few more this year.

“Taylor’s impact on music this decade is undeniable and her performances on the American Music Awards have been truly spectacular,” Mark Bracco, executive vice president of programming & development at dick clark productions said in a press statement. “We’re thrilled to honor her as our Artist of the Decade and can’t wait for her to blow everyone away with an epic, career-spanning performance unlike any other!”

The Grammys

Over the past 10-plus years, Swift has racked up an extraordinarily long list of awards. From CMT Music Awards, to VMAs, there aren’t many accolades Swift hasn’t received. With the Grammy nominations nearing, a lot of people are wondering if Swift’s new album will get the recognition it deserves. The mega-star has received 32 nominations and has won 10 over the past decade. Both “Fearless” and “1989” won Album of the Year in 2010 and 2016, but some of her other notable albums did not.

However, Rolling Stone predicts Swift’s “Lover” album will take home the Grammy in 2020 for Album of the Year. They said, “Lover feels like a shoo-in, summing up everything Swift has always done well — from nostalgic guitar weepers to radiant Eighties throwbacks and inspiring assertions of self-determination. Like Prince or Madonna before her, she pioneered the pop freedoms many of her fellow nominees take for granted.”

We will have to wait until Nov. 20 to see if Swift even gets nominated, but it seems pretty likely. Hopefully the songstress will have more than just her Artist of the Decade award to celebrate at the AMAs on Nov. 24.
