Porsche Unveils New Taycan Cross Turismo EV

Published on March 4, 2021

Porsche unveiled a new Taycan Cross Turismo EV this week that will act as a slightly bigger, station wagon style of all-electric vehicle to its family of electric vehicles. The new model, set to start delivering this summer, will retail for a starting price of $90,900. The Taycan Cross Turismo EV will bring a larger model to the Porsche EV family, giving the brand a competitive edge in offering a sports utility style car to the luxury EV market.

The Taycan Cross Turismo will offer four versions of the model at its launch, ranging from 280-460 kW and speeds that range from 220-250 km/h. The company says that every model of the EV will come with a Performance Battery Plus, which offers 93.4 kWh. The higher end versions of the EV will offer things like faster acceleration (its max possible acceleration is 0-100 km/h in 2.9 seconds, or around 0-62 mph in the same amount of time.

Add ons for the Taycan Cross Tursimo will offer things like the ability to off road by increasing ground clearance by as much as 30 mm. However, the standard model of the EV offers all wheel drive and adaptive air suspension, giving the car the ability to acclimate to demanding terrain or rougher roadways.

Porsche also unveiled two new e-bikes to go along with the Taycan Cross Turismo since the brand of the EV is to offer something like a sport utility vehicle that can be used to adventure in. The e-Bike Sport and the e-Bike Cross are designed to match the Taycan Cross Turismo for the ultimate luxury adventure experience. Prices on the bikes range from $8,549 for the Cross and a whopping $10,700 for the Sport. Even for an e-bike these prices are pretty astronomical, but it is Porsche so consumers shouldn’t really expect affordability to be one of the reasons people will be getting the product.

Both bikes are made with carbon fiber frames and Shimano mid-drive motors, which is likely the explanation for the high prices, and full suspension. The Sport is meant to be more of a road bike while the Cross offers more versatility in where you can take it. However, most mountain bikers will be quick to point out that many trails don’t allow e-bikes in the first place, so you’d probably be limited to where you can ride it altogether based on that fact.

Porsche intends for Taycan Cross Tursimo drivers to use the e-Bikes in their adventuring, and the company is advertising the vehicle and bikes as the ultimate sustainable adventure experience in the luxury market. The company will also release a rear carrier for you to carry your fancy bikes on, but doesn’t clarify if you’ll be able to charge your bikes while you charge your car. If so, that would be pretty cool.
