6 Sunscreens For Your Face That Aren't a Gloopy Mess

Published on May 26, 2020

Summer is almost here and that means finding the right sunscreen for your face is more important now than ever. For the record, you should be wearing sunscreen year-round, and yes, even while we’re all inside a little more than usual. The problem is, putting sunscreen on your face can be slightly unpleasant. Gloopy, thick sunscreens can make it feel like you’re wearing a mask on your face, and not in a good way. Putting makeup on top of that just feels gross. Here are some sunscreens for your face that aren’t a gloopy mess to go with the perfect summer sundress.

La Roche-Posay Anthelios Melt-In Sunscreen Milk ($35.99)

La Roche-Posay is one of my favorite skincare brands. It’s sold at the drugstore, but its high-end quality. One of my favorite products is their sunscreen. It’s lightweight and works beautifully under makeup. It has a velvety finish so it feels like you’re wearing nothing for the skin. Even though it feels like you’re wearing nothing, the Melt-In Sunscreen has SPF 60. It’s oil-free, water-resistant, and it has everything you need in a sunscreen.

CeraVe Face Moisturizer with SPF 30 ($14.96)

This is the sunscreen I use on my face for regular everyday wear. It’s not enough for a full day at the beach, but it’s perfect for daily use. It’s ultra-lightweight and absorbs in seconds. It’s also combined with moisturizer so you can skip a step in your morning routine. CeraVe is a super gentle brand that’s great for sensitive skin, so with this sunscreen there are no worries about breakouts or irritation.

Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch Water Resistant ($8.97)

This sunscreen is super lightweight and comfortable to wear. It feels like air, but with heavy-duty protection. It has 100+ SPF, so with this sunscreen there are no worries about harmful UV rays. This sunscreen is perfect for anything the sun might have in store for you this summer. Neutrogena is another affordable skincare brand that I absolutely swear by to take good care of my face, and their sunscreen is no exception.

EltaMD UV Clear Facial Sunscreen ($36.00)

Sunscreen formulated for sensitive skin tends to be more lightweight than regular sunscreen, which is why there are so many sensitive skin sunscreens on this list. The EltaMD sunscreen is another one that’s specially formulated for sensitive skin but is perfect for anyone who wants protection without the pore-clogging elements. It’s SPF 46, and it’ll protect from the sun without feeling like your face is covered in sludge.

Supergoop! Everyday Play SPF 50 Lotion ($22.00)

I first found out about Supergoop! on YouTube, so I was a little skeptical when I first tried it. My skepticism, however, was entirely unwarranted. Supergoop! SPF applies quickly and looks seamless under makeup. It’s water-resistant, great for sensitive skin, absorbs super easily. What’s not to like?

Supergoop! Defense Refresh Setting Mist ($14.00)

This is a truly magical product. It’s setting spray with added SPF, so it’ll make your makeup last longer with added protection from the sun’s harmful rays. It’s only SPF 14, so it won’t work as the only sun protection product, especially for long days outside. However, it’s perfect for adding just a little additional sun protection and reapplying without messing up your perfectly made-up face. Magical.
