Welcome back to Show and Tell, where I unbox sweet tech for every area of your life. In this episode, we have an esteemed returning guest: Scruffy! You might know our furry friend from the Pet Carrier Plus unboxing, but today she shows off the Halo All-In-One Smart Collar. This piece of tech combines fitness and GPS tracking with a smart fence and proven training methods. How do we know these training methods work? You may know their creator from his Emmy-nominated television show, Dog Whisperer with César Millán. This expert dog psychologist teamed up with Ken and Michael Ehrman to create the holy grail of smart collars: Halo.

Taking dog collars to the next level

The Halo has all the expected features of a smart dog collar, but it takes them to the next level. First, it has a fitness tracker. Through the app, you will always know if your pet has been sleeping or running around all day. Next is the real-time location tracking. Of course GPS is used but Halo goes a step further by adding Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) technology. So when it comes to watching over man’s best friend, satellites are the guardian angels in the sky. Because of the GPS and GNSS combo, the location tracking technology in the Halo is better than most smartphones and is more comparable to the level of location tech found in autonomous vehicles. The collar also has smart fence technology, where you set a custom boundary for your pet either through the app or by walking a perimeter with the collar. No need for physical wires buried under the ground which you can’t take with you. Your virtual boundary can traverse streams, rivers, driveways and more.

Halo takes a step beyond average

Let’s say Scruffy approaches my custom boundary. She will feel some vibrations from the collar as a warning. If she finds the virtual border, it will trigger a setting that releases a customized voice command which I can preset on the app with my voice saying “Scruffy come home!” But if not even my voice could pull her out of the trance, the collar will go into emergency mode. It gives me real-time data on Scruffy’s location and activity, and it continues with the vibrations. But let’s say that Scruffy does hear my voice and decides to turn back and head home–the collar will release my pre-recorded encouragements as a part of Millan’s dog psychology. The best part is that this technology comes with a 21-day training program built by Cesar Millan, so you learn how to train your dog to use the collar. Only the best for your 4-legged friend!

I will be back soon to unbox more tech, but until then, check out my previous episodes here.
