Single Moms Planet founder Neferteri Plessy announced the launch of the SMP Accelerator which will offer 100 single mothers grants and business education. We sat down with Neferteri to learn more about the organization and this latest initiative.

Tell us about how you and your co-founder Cole Patterson came together to start Single Moms Planet?

It all started in Long Beach, California over brunch where the co-founder of Single Moms Planet, Cole Patterson and I were reflecting on where we started versus where we were now in our careers in entertainment, being newly divorced and co-parenting. We were faced with the challenge of how to juggle being an “ideal mother” alongside the reality of being a “working mother” in entertainment. And we were not able to manage how to do it all. We started brainstorming about our passions and goals, some of which blossomed into us discussing our mothers and how they raised us as solo moms who sacrificed to support their families. At that moment, Cole and I understood what was truly missing for us and co-parenting or single mothers in similar situations. And that was a community. This concept became Single Moms Planet.

You were both entrepreneurs independently as single mothers – what skills from running your businesses did you bring to the table when creating this organization?

Cole and I both come from the entertainment industry, having hands-on experience developing expertise in media, brand management, fashion, beauty and marketing. And we did it all while maintaining continuous success as entrepreneurs. Having worked with iconic figures such as Hugh Hefner, the former CEO of Playboy Enterprises, Anastasia Soare, the CEO of Anastasia of Beverly Hills, and Steve Ballmer, the CEO of the Los Angeles Clippers, I saw firsthand what it took to execute on a high level when it comes to putting on special events and using high-end media, brand visibility and marketing.

My co-founder Cole Patterson is gifted in many aspects of creative artistry. Her versatility working behind the scenes as a celebrity makeup artist has allowed her to build a name for herself in the entertainment industry. She’s worked with top entertainers like Usher, Harold Perrineau, Gabe Iglesias, Kevin Hart and has worked on hit shows as department head of makeup, including with HBO, Netflix, Universal and NBC. Cole has also been expanding her talents making her directorial debut with her feature film Holiday Hideaway on BET+  last year for the holiday season. Working behind the scenes prepared Cole to understand the various skills needed to operate a successful branding and media organization.

Cole and I were both trained to complete tasks while being a team player from start to finish. With the first-hand knowledge we’ve gained from our time among the top personalities and brands in the entertainment and media industries, we’ve developed a formula that takes an idea from concept to reality through our business and banding consultancy company Elevated Strategist. While Cole and I have different skill sets, we both are committed to business longevity and innovation in our approach, which creates perfect alignment for running a successful non-profit like Single Moms Planet and Cole Skincare for Men.

What are the goals of Single Moms Planet and can you share the SMP Accelerator opportunity you are offering?

Single Moms Planet is dedicated to uplifting under-resourced single mom business owners and working mothers nationwide. We like to say we are building one strong family at a time! We do this through comprehensive programs of financial literacy, business development, mentorship, and entrepreneurial training. Single Moms Planet provides education, accountability, and hope.

The SMP 100 Accelerator program offers single mom executives and entrepreneurs strategies to enhance the visibility of their business and brand. Our curated media marketing model will give our accepted applicants the tools they need to sustain growth and brand legacy.

The SMP Accelerator offers 100 single mothers a grant through our Single Moms Planet Small Business Initiative valued at $7,500 per accepted mother. The selected applicants will join the SMP 100 Executive & Entrepreneur Accelerator Program where they will learn how to develop and uplevel their company or brand.

What other events do you use to create community among your members?

Single Moms Planet uses a wide range of interactive, educational and in person events that will help build a strong and vibrant community among our members. We continue to do outreach for partnership collaborations and sponsorship opportunities. You can view all of our events here.

What advice do you have for single moms when it comes to balancing that role between focusing on her career or business and being a single mom?

My philosophy on balance is that it does not exist. Falling into what you believe are your top 1-3 focuses of the day is where you will see and experience consistent wins in your life, family and business. Starting a business is like becoming a mother. They both are something that is born from our natural passions and creativity. Laying out the requirements for your daily business goals while benchmarking how to measure your success will go a long way.

What’s next for each of your individual businesses or for SMP?

Coming up next for Single Moms Planet are our Mother’s and Father’s Day events. The Mother’s Day Vision Board Workshop sponsored by Tres Generaciones honoring Author & Educator Tiffney Cambridge along with Singer & Songwriter “Blush” in celebration of Mother’s Day at the historical Culver Hotel.

We are also taking part in the Mother’s Day Makeovers Making A Difference segment airing on EXTRA TV with Chaz Dean of WEN Hair. This segment will feature two mothers from Single Moms Planet who are in a career shift and are in need of a new look and hope as they venture into the world of single motherhood.

Single Moms Planet is partnering with Cole Skincare for Men for their Father’s Day Pop Up for Event on June 17, 2023 at Nigel Beauty Emporium in Los Angeles, California to reach single mothers raising sons to gain information and knowledge about personal hygiene practices and self care regimen. Cole Skincare for Men will donate a portion of proceeds to benefit Single Moms Planet’s Small Business Initiative. The event will encourage single mothers and fathers to bring their sons to learn about self-care and how to develop and maintain proper skin routine.
