Another big movie franchise is coming to the small screen. CBS has put it in a straight-to-series order for a show that will follow The Silence of the Lambs‘ Clarice Starling. The iconic character was brought to life by Jodie Foster in the stellar psychological thriller franchise.

The other films in the series focused on Sir Anthony Hopkin’s Hannibal Lecter or Edward Norton’s Will Graham. Fans of the original will be excited to see where the CBS series goes with protagonist Clarice Starling’s character. The television show will take place following the events of The Silence of the Lambs. It promises to examine the personal story of FBI Agent Clarice Starling.

A Deep Dive into Clarice Starling

Executive producers Alex Kurtzman and Jenny Lumet issued a statement on the series following the completion of the CBS deal. They said, ““After more than 20 years of silence, we’re privileged to give voice to one of America’s most enduring heroes – Clarice Starling. Clarice’s bravery and complexity have always lit the way, even as her personal story remained in the dark. But hers is the very story we need today: her struggle, her resilience, her victory. Her time is now, and always.”

Their statement and the subject matter suggests a gritty character drama that would greatly compliment the franchise’s canon. However, the deal with CBS has raised questions about whether this would be a crime procedure typical for the channel.

There have been no clues regarding the presence of Hannibal Lecter in this series. The description reads as though if he were a secondary character; Clarice is the star of this project. Fans of the franchise are chomping at the bit to finally learn what became of the prodigious FBI Agent. Perhaps we are all in store for flashbacks to the slaughter house which birthed the title.
