Shameless Renewed for 11th and Final Season

Published on January 15, 2020

Showtime‘s Shameless is returning for the show’s 11th and final season. The show is the network’s number one comedy and its longest-running series.

The dysfunctional family dramedy, starring William H. Macy, chronicles the Gallagher family and their various adventures. The show also stars Jeremy Allen White, Cameron Monaghan, Noel Fisher, Emma Kenney, Ethan Cutkosky, Shanola Hampton, Steve Howey, and Christian Isaiah.

Emmy Rossum played Fiona, the oldest sibling and family matriarch for seasons 1-9. No official word yet on whether Fiona will return for the final season, but we can all hope.

On Rossum’s potential return for the final season, Showtime network president Greg Levine said in an interview with Deadline,

“Too early to say. She would be welcomed with open arms but Emmy doesn’t owe us anything. She did great for the show as the show did great for her, and it was a very amicable parting. So if she surprises us, it would be lovely.

Shameless has won 3 Emmys over the course of its run. The show is technically a comedy but it has also covered intense themes, especially class differences, as well as LGBTQ+ issues, race issues, and gender issues.

The 11 season run means Shameless will match the UK version of the show which also ran for 11 seasons. John Wells, the show’s creator and producer, adapted the US version from Paul Abbott’s original UK version.

The final twelve episodes will air this summer. Season 10 concludes on January 26th.
